Drone suggestion

My home-made drones use WiFi or 915 mHz. I normally stick with WiFi which has a range of max 700 meters. However once programmed there is no need for a WiFi link unless I want to watch its' progress on a map.

The Fimi Drone uses 5 gHz frequency.

The line of sight issue is vague. My interpretation of FAA'S guidance is not thing between you and the drone. Not how far you can see it.

I fly beyond my ability to physically see the drone a lot. My autel is large compared to today's foldable models and it's hugger orange. I can physically see it much, much farther thand dull colored compact drones.

I will once in awhile go beyond the 400ft elevation limit but not very often. Most of my flights are videoing or taking pics of ground objects. Not much sense in going beyond 400ft.

I stay under the 400ft... never a reason to go above it for any practical reason and I surely don't want to put anyone in harm's way. We have a fair number of pleasure aircraft, coast guard and army helicopters that frequent our area and they fly low. On line of sight, my interpretation is the same as Richard's. I frequently lose sight of mine and use the GPS map screen to know where 'I' am at.

Fixed it for you Richard. I read it as line of visual sight not what you see on the camera....and 400 feet maximum altitude ceiling is based on the take off point, not the surrounding topography so in essence you could take off and climb to 400 feet, fly over a canyon and be at 1000 feet.

FPV don't count as I read the rules.

Never heard of that brand. Anxious to hear a report from you. And see some pics of the drone itself. Thanks for updating us.

Parrot's are done. Their maker is pulling the plug on all consumer drones. All they will make is drones for LE.

Yes I saw that. Dustin Dunhill did a few vids on Youtube using Parrot drones. He converted one to use 4G and flew from one Hawaii Island to another and back with beautiful clear footage all the way. Next time he tried it his drone disappeared. His vids are worth watching. Below is his inter-island flight with 4G. It's a long video but very interesting.

As for the Fimi I ordered, it has a fence set at 500 meters height. I would never even think of going that high. Too many aircraft and emergency helicopters fly over my area. Before they scrapped the F111s from our local AFB, I had a F111 fly around my house not much above tree height, or so it seemed. I could clearly see the pilots helmet as he flew by.
