Would you buy an electric truck?

I ammended my post somewhat to give possible explanations. It doesn't like to be flexed or bent. My Dad was once driving in the states and had a rock thrown at a side window. It left a mark for the life of the car, but didn't break. I always found that strange.

Just curious as to what happens when the masses go electric and the grid finally fails from lack of upgrades / maintenance? It ain't all that good presently. What about then? No juice no charge. No charge, no go.

No juice, no gas pump.

No juice, no gas pump.

That entirely depends on how much you have on hand in storage. Myself, I usually have at least 500 gallons on hand (diesel) and my pickup truck is diesel as are my tractors so not an issue here.

Most larger stations around here have backup anyway.

Of course with the Covid thing we don't venture out much anyway.

No electric powered car would run this farm for very long. I have a diesel powered 35 KW standby genset for emergency power and it don't power everything, just 90%. I'd need a 45 KW 220 /3/1 for everything.

I'd suck the life out of a EV battery in about 3 minutes. Might work for a suburban house, not for my farm however.

My Tesla Model S 85 has an 85 kWh battery which should easily equal your 35 kW generator for 2 hours.

Cruise at 70 MPH draws just over 20 kW. "Full throttle" is 380 kW. 35 kW is loafing.

Call me crazy, but the spin of the engine then the grumbly diesel engine roaring to life, especially on cold days, is something i look forward to and enjoy. I can roll down the road listening to my engine. I couldn't do that in an electric car. Don't get me wrong, I love new technology, but there's some things I consider sacred.

Plus, I can take every bolt in my truck out and completely separate it piece by piece. And then put it back together again. And for the most part, I can do it with about 6 sockets, a couple box wrenches, and a torque wrench. The few electronics in my truck I at least have a basic understanding of. If my truck breaks down for any reason, I could probably have it diagnosed before it finishes breaking down, much less when I roll to a stop. Every part makes an distinct sound, and I know those sounds, and it's the same for almost every diesel or gasoline engine. Yes there's a ton of moving parts. But they're moving.

In an EV there's only 2-4 electric motors for moving parts, then about a billion non-moving parts. Ever build a computer and have something go wrong, so you need to use the on board diagnostic in the BIOS to evaluate POST beeps, or error codes. Then you identify the fault and replace it? That's not happening with any EV. Tow to the dealer, $$$.

You could make the arguement that you could stick your car on the charger every night and it would be topped off the next morning. And that would probably be accurate, and suitable for a lot of people. But I have 8 cars in my driveway, and 9 tractors, and I'm not even good about putting them on battery tenders so the battery doesn't go flat. But if it does when I get to it after 6 months, if it's dead I hit it with the charger and hope the battery holds a charge after running it for a bit. If not I'm off to pep boys to buy a $120 battery. What happens to an EV though? The battery replacement costs more than the vehicle.

An EV world is a socialist world. Where one simply can't buy a car for occasional use. It relies on the 1-3 cars per household. I have my main truck, plus a hummer and a jaguar for "fun" because I do ok and want to have some fun and my interest is in unique cars. My wife has her ford fusion and a bmw z4 for her fun car because she doesn't want me having all the fun. Then my daughters have a mini cooper and a nissan xterra. Then there's my parents, my mother has a jeep and my father has a tahoe, but my mother has a vw beetle and my father has 2 corvettes. In this case, we put our recreation money to what we enjoy. In an EV world, this simply wouldn't be an option. But socialism wouldn't be thrust upon us, it would simply be the only option. You just couldn't live the life we live. The barrier to entry would be considerably higher. I could not drive my hummer for 5 years, go back and fire it up and right where I left off. But an EV? Not a chance.

Does one not expect to be fact checked?

Loves expects to have 28 EV charging stations online in early 2021: Electrify America Announces Collaboration with Love’s Travel Stops

Loves isn't doing it, Electrify America is, spending VW's EPA fine funds.

There are about 500 Loves locations in the USA. I have never seen an EVSE at one but a few have RV sanitary dumps.

Sorry about that. Electrify America has installed it's 2000th charging station.
