Just in case, buy it someplace that accepts return for exchange. :)

I had it on the non running 186 in my yard. If I buy one it will list the ym2000 as the correct application. But for other people yes buy the correct one.

Ok update time. This time as I probed the alternator the B fat wire in it just has battery voltage. The upper pin in the two pin connector had between 14 and 20 volts depending on rpm. So this tells me the alternator is putting out. But it's just not making it to the battery to charge it. This tells me the regulator is bad. So I swapped in the one I pulled off the 186. It either will not work or it is bad also because there was no difference or if I remember nothing at the same terminal that showed charging voltage with my VR currently on the ym2000.

So what I am going to do is go on eBay or Amazon and buy the cheapest solid state VR money can buy, like any other cheap skate would do! I looked at Rock Auto and they only had old school type that are not water proof. There cheap but still just going with a $22 or so solid state.

Ah ha, I like your approach. The same goes for my machine. With the tractor running, I get voltage off the alternator wires. With it off, I get nothing. Also, I had not had the time to take the dash panel off to see the regulator. 2-times owning the machine, I had mice and then a birds nest up in there. Not sure if the regulator is the issue or something chewed a wire or so. I need to make time to look into it shorty before old man winter hits hard.

bmaverick, Most regulators are mounted on the firewall. Is yours not there?

It's mounted inside the dash near the steering wheel column shaft. It's on the right side of the steering shaft. The 2-way flasher is nearby too. On the left side, the Hour/RPM meter hogs up a good chunk of space in there.

Look at page 83 in the YANMAR YM2610 PARTS CATALOG NPC-1058.pdf

Page 83 shows item-1 as the wire-harness. Just above the "1" on the same side is the VR connector. I've browsed a few pages, yet don't see the VR in the diagrams. Bet it's one of those "*" or "I" part numbers one has to find in the back sheets of the parts manual.

I've been behind that dash access panel more than I ever wanted. LOL Fixed the 3 bulbs from Hoye, another time repaired the decompression cable as it snapped in half, 2 separate times clearing out a mouse and the next year a bird nest, and looked to see how to hook up the horn. Don't recall if I ever took a pix with that panel off.

The VR looks to be the original OE 124550-77710.

Odd, I'm not seeing 124550-77710 shown in the BOM table on page 14. What item number is it on the page?

ah ha, that isn't a YM2610, that is a YM2500 setup. The thermostart reservoir has 2 hose connections whereas the YM2610 has only one. I have nothing on the engine side of the firewall either.

(Grabs camera, walks out to tractor shed, will be right back.)
