Thanks. I sure wish the progress was a little more steady. After tomorrow, I have 4 days off, and plan to get a lot done.

Spent the last 2 days working on the front porch and fill in the garage. Porch is about done, just need to finish the form around the outside, put flashing against the house and rebar. Hope to have that fished by the end of the day Tuesday. With any luck, that concrete will get pouted Friday or Saturday. Will have to order another load of 57 to finish topping off the garage.

Also picked up 2 of 3 pallets of flooring we ordered last week, didn’t expect it this quick. Pallets weighed 1400 pounds each. Put one in the bed of my Ram 1500 Ecodiesel, and one on my single axle trailer. I was afraid putting the 3rd one on the trailer would be too much for the trailer to handle, so I’ll stop tomorrow and get it in the truck. Really need to invest in a bigger trailer.

Got the porch all framed up and more gravel in the garage. Was hoping to pour concrete for the porch tomorrow but not going to happen. Renting a trencher for the weekend and will work on utilities. Need to get hooked up so I can have heat once it’s closed in.

Hopefully I can make some picture worthy progress this weekend.

Is that an osb sidewalk?

Isn't that how you use up those odd sized pieces of OSB???

The osb sidewalk is working well. I like it but wife says it can’t be permanent.....

Today did not go as planned. The trencher I reserved was tore up by the person who rented the day before, so no go on trenching.

I decided to go ahead and get the utilities dug up where I needed to cross them, one of which is the main water line feeding the property, and current home. Well, I found it alright, just as my shovel busted a hole in the top of it!

IMG_7581.jpg

Called water company to come fix it, and they never showed, so called a family friend who does contract repairs for them. He got ahold of someone and they came out and marked for repairs. Repair crew still hasn’t showed.....wife is not impressed with my efforts that have left us with no water.....

I did get the back garage wall sheeted, more gravel in the garage and one side of the garage door wall framed up, minus the cripples.

Sorry to hear you broke the water line. Why not dig it up and fix it yourself?

Water line doesn’t look very deep for WV winters.

That’s was the plan, once dug up, I found it was 2” thin wall pipe. No luck finding fittings for that on a Saturday.

It’s 36”, frost line is 18” in this area. That said, I expected the main to be a bit deeper, which is part of the reason I hit it, wasn’t expecting it yet.

Picture was deceiving, only looked like a ft or so.
Mine is probably 3 ft deep also.

Looked at the picture again, water level is about a foot down, but the busted line is another 2 feet down. I later dig the ditch deeper to better expose the line, but didn’t get a picture of it.

Here’s a shot after the fix.

Here’s the garage framing for one door.

Didn’t get a lot done today, ran a gas line, finished up the steel panels on the porch, and spent a few hours cleaning up. Re-organized and took inventory of lumber on hand.

Yeah, Parkersburg is about an hour and a half from here, so not too far away at all. I’ve travelled route 50 many times over the years.

Concrete for the front porch arrives at 9:30 in the morning. Finished all flashing and rebar this evening. Going to add coloring to the concrete that should make it a slate/grey color. Never used it before, so should be interesting to see how it turns out. Was going to roll a pattern on it, but wife said she would prefer smooth, so we’ll go with smooth.

Should finish plenty early enough to get pictures for once.

Concrete pour went good, the Solomon coloring I used appears to have worked great, concrete seems to be keeping a nice dark grey color. Concrete plant didn’t put the requested calcium in the mix, so the cool temps caused it the setup slowly. It took most of the day to finish. On the bright side, we rented a bobcat T790 track loader and fixed my yard and cut the drive into the garage while waiting on the concrete to set up. All turned out well, but worked into darkness again. Here’s a midway pic, I’ll get finished pictures tomorrow.
