The death of an L3901

I have never seen a Kubota yet that would stall the engine with a hydro transmission even if it was in high range. The relief valve would just open. Even up against a tree.

I've stalled all 3 Kubotae that I've had.

I stalled mine several times using pto winch, then sometimes when I release the winch rope at the wrong time the motor stalls and runs backwards, then I hit the panic button.....

Well, Yeah.

How do you do it?

Usually pushing snow uphill on the driveway in a higher range than I should have been in. A few times pushing into a gravel pile.

What the...how the ...how do you do that? (Scratches head).
I take it the winch doesn’t have a clutch, or clutch is stronger than the tractor, so tractor stalls. But does elasticity in cable then make tractor turn backwards if you don’t release the rope? Or whatever you’re pulling heads back in the wrong direction?

I guess it depends on how the relief valve is set. I am guessing that your throttle setting was too low also in these circumstances. So maybe throttle setting low, relief valve set up high, and pushing into basically an immovable object it is possible to stall the engine with a hydro. Although it has never happened to me.

My BX I stalled more than once, usually going into a gravel pile in high at a lower throttle setting.

Yeah, unfortunately they decided to only put a 2 speed transmission behind the hydro on the BX series. So you have two speeds, too low and too high. :)

Most times winching I have it on idle and dont see a stump or rock that the trees catch on and I dont release the rope fast enough or I think the tree will come and then it dont. Sometimes I have throttle up and I break the cable, I just didn't know a motor can run backwards but this dont happen very often, so far in 14 years about 3 times.
