Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Paystar is that F150 a long bed? I have a 2017 F150 Supercab also. I knew you could get them with a long bed but have only seen one ever. Nice looking truck.

Thanks Dodge Man. Yes, it's 8 foot box. Someone ordered it and never took delivery. So I was at my dealer when that employee pricing was on and I got $13,000 off so my son said just buy it!
I wanted ruby red and XTR 302a package, but as soon as I saw the 8 foot box and the price I grabbed it. It has all the options I wanted except the heated trailer tow mirrors and heated seats. But a guy in town installs seat heat for $500 in both front seats. And I got him to install LED headlights and fog lights and the remote start.

My salesman just called me again to see if I wanted to sell it, LOL He said he can't get any 8 foot boxes right now and the dealer that installed my back rack and bedliner wants it, LOL

Interesting. I love my Ram, and have no need for an 8' box, but I think they're shooting themselves in the foot. You cannot get an 8' box on a 1500. You also cannot get a "regular cab" (2 doors with no space behind the seats) in the "new" i.e. 5th gen version. And there are several trim levels that are only available as a full Crew Cab as opposed to the shorter Quad Cab.

Really? You can't get a Ram quad cab with an 8 foot box? I thought Ram had everything covered.

I thought I could get away with a regular cab now that my kids are grown and on their own, but I'll tell you.....using my F550 was a pain if I was travelling any where. There was no room inside at all for luggage, even by yourself.

I love 8 foot boxes. You can put your atv in the back and close the tailgate. Or put a fuel transfer tank or job box in it and still have as much as a short box.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Growing up the unsung hero was the family wagon... remember well going to the lumber yard and loading 20 sheets of 4x8 plywood or drywall and then closing the gate...

Long pipe and timber lashed to the roof rack for the 15 minutes on surface streets home...

Neighbor needed a long pipe and lashed it under his car secured to the front and rear bumpers...

Family wagons did a lot of the heavy lifting for everyday Americans...

Went with mom to the gravel yard in an old 3/4 pickup circa 1960 to pick up gravel... the yard manager said lady... don't you have a man to do this for you... Mom being a farm girl got a little insulted... said her man was back at the job site and needed another load NOW... he said OK... give her what she wants!

There was a time when a truck was not a truck without a bed to haul 4x8 goods...

I think you're going to see vehicles come and go as far as availability goes. Sourcing parts is becoming a real problem. I remember reading Toyota (and I think Honda) are struggling to get chips for things like the computers.

There's an "easy" fix for that...

Unfortunately I don't think anyone (of the automakers) will take me up on that.

Kubota could go first with the 'fix' & build all their products from the ground up here in the States. We don't ever have parts shortages. :D

Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

To all the Toyota and Honda bashers, have fun with this:

I google searched, "What Truck Does an old man buy?" Google responded with an article on the Honda Ridgeline.

I had been looking at a Taco 4x4 but climbing into it was ripping up my knees.. I considered adding running boards but... I wasn't thrilled with the Toyota dealer nor with the handling of the Taco truck. So, off to Honda I went. I loved the Ridgeline - was just the right machine for me. I don't need it for heavy lifting. I just want to be able to move larger objects around.

So those that like bashing the Honda brand calling them Ho hos and so on, well, you'll like the nickname I gave my truck: OssoTonka! (you can think of it as "Oh - so Tonka" or for those who know a little Espanol, my nickname is the bear.. so "Bear's toy" was the intention.)

My boss decided that OssoTonka was not too bad. He kind of liked it when he drove it. But, he had to go Big... so he bought a "Fix It Again Tony" RAM 1500 - which we call "RAMbo". It's a nice machine. I hope it holds up for him. His bed carries only a bit more in cubic volume than OssoTonka. It can carry more weight - it can tow more - and the diesel in it along with the huge fuel tank gave him his Highway Cruiser.

Like the threads that speak to buying machines for the intended purpose, there are different trucks for different purposes. Since I need to travel 500 miles each way to the land where the tractor lives, and I am going to do that 10 or more times a year, I need a machine in which I am comfortable. OssoTonka fits that bill and allows me to haul the stuff we need to haul to and on the mountain. Nope, I doubt I can tow the tractor to the dealer over the mountains. But, I could move some other loads we need to move from time to time. It is all about what you need to do.

The boss and I run his business making diagnostic tools for VAG cars... We know something about the car/truck industry and we are learning lots about the Ag machine industry. Note that if VAG ever brings their truck to the USA (the Amarok), we likely will have one.

I like OssoTonka. He likes RAMbo.. too old men happy with their toys! And the banter is worth every penny we spent on the trucks... it's non-stop ripping on each other's ride!

My 2006 Honda Ridgeline just hit 250k miles last week. Only thing it’s ever needed was a new A/C compressor, tires, and brakes.

Combined with a 14ft utility trailer it gets the job done.

congrats to the op on the new truck. the old adage that there's no replacement for displacement is sure getting given a hard run by technology, turbos, and transmissions now.

on a side note, it's amazing how worked up people can get when the masculinity of their vehicle is put in question by internet trolls. I'm writing this with my best jonathan goldsmith tone - I don't always drive trucks, but when don't i drive a bright red imported convertible... a co-worker sometimes rode from work with me to our softball games and we sure got a few interesting looks from the boys in pickups when we pulled up to a traffic light.

currently i take every opportunity i can to rattle the cage of a co-worker who likes spiked seltzer. i tell him that i usually see that on the shelf right next to the men's drinks. the kid's twice my size, half my age and in better shape than i ever was, so i've gotta find a way to get him going. course he always makes sure to remind me of my age, so it's all fair.
