Emax22 hard starting and white smoke?

there's a connector on the glow plug rail, its cheap and becomes loose... if you hold it tight against the the connector it slides on, it should start... if the connector is gone, simply cut it off and crimp on a new one... had to do it on a 26 max xl gear... take a meter and see if your getting 12 - 12.5 volts to that connector, if you are, its probably a bad/loose connector...
if you need to start the machine, simply take a heat source (I use a torpedo heater) and aim it at your oil pan for a couple minutes, you'll see the white smoke start to turn blk, it'll start shortly after...
good luck...

any chance of a picture of this connector?

its the hot wire that connects to the glow plug rail...

stock connector is blk, it slides onto the tab connector held down by 8mm bolt on the glow plug rail...
good luck

You should be able to start the tractor without the glow plugs. I just did it yesterday and temperature was at 28 degrees. They shouldn't be the problem. Cranking should by itself generate the needed heat to start. It should be outputting dark/black smoke when first cranking, diesel engine require an overrich mixture to start properly. To me sound like low fuel delivery, fuel filter issue or injection components.

You probably fixed the problem with your injector service. White smoke is unburnt fuel. Combustion chamber is not hot enough due to reduced or uneven fuel flow.

You speaking from experience with the emax? I have had mine since new, when it's cold it will not start with out glow plug being cycled at least once. With out using the glow plugs it's cranks and won't start and starter takes a beating.

Use your glow plugs to start it that's what they are for....

your starter wont last long doing that... feel how hot it gets after you crank it over till it starts...

Never had a Emax tractor, just a 2815 Hst, brought new and unless like today 8 degrees it need about 8 second on the glow plugs before starting, warmer temperatue don't need the plugs. My engine my just run rich which makes it easier to start. It a Japanese build tractor with the Mahindra name, I'm not sure who builds the Emax engines. but diesel engines all basic work the same.

The tractor was purchased in 2006 and now has just over 600 hours on it, so it lasted a long time and shows no issue with starting.

Glow plugs are for faster starting and in your case you need them. Not all díesel engines have glow plugs, they work off the heat generated during cranking. I have a good engine setup.

There is a lot of clatter with that engine. Get your valve adjustment checked if it doesn't quiet down with the injectors serviced.

I when back and listen to the other videos and and your right about the clatter, I kept waiting on a rod to exit the engine when he got to the high rpms.

Ok so i got the injectors back and installed them. I find that the engine runs a little bit smoother and smokes slightly less at pto speed, but it still is hard to start and smokes quite a bit at startup. Not sure what else to do, but im assured that this is within normal operating specs. If i can get my hands on a diesel compression tester, i will check that, but otherwise im out of ideas.

Leadfoot, I went out 2hrs ago to blow snow with the Emax 25. The tractor is in a unheated, non insulated barn and hasn’t been started in a few weeks. Currently 15 degrees out with feels like 0 degrees. I ran the glow plugs twice then started it. A little black smoke then a little white smoke then none after that. I am no diesel guru but sounds like something is going on with yours. If you want, next time I cold start it I could try to video it. So you could see what I get.

The engines in the emax are daedong engines. I believe most of the clattering you hear is mostly at idle. And I am pretty sure a lot of it is the inside of the muffler rattling around. As once you up the rpms it pretty much goes away. Definitely not as quite as the iseki that I have.

Since I couldn't see what the rpm were when it first started here something you might try. Since diesel engine need a over rich mixture to start, try bumming the throttle up to make it have have more fuel before starting. It could be that your throttle linkage it out of adjustment making it run lean.
