Did you have anything on the rear before you picked the load up?

Only a tow hitch but tyres about 80% water for ballast, have lifted round bales and 750kg bulkers many times without the rear lifting, did not know these were heavier, they all look alike and 750kg is a standard size.

Stupid people almost always continue to do stupid things......and (removed) fits that definition!

WOW !!!!
That is unnecessarily NASTY/HARSH!
A TOTAL INSULT!
I would venture a guess that (removed)'s IQ might actually be higher than yours!

Filled tires don't do much for lifting. You need weight on the 3 point.

Yes, (removed). You could be making a good point but I've given up trying to translate. It's lost in the wind ................

I did that kind of thing years ago, like 30, when all we had out here was chat rooms and bulletin boards.
I don’t even read his posts.
Whatever he’s trying to say is lost to me.
When WHAT you’re trying to say become secondary to HOW you’re trying to say it, the reader gets lost in translating the subject material.
Sam Clemons was a brilliant man but lost a lot of his readership with his style of delivery.

They help quite a bit vs nothing but tractors need substantial rear ballast to utilize the FEL and loaded tires aren’t enough by themselves.

Thank god it turned out OK for you.I always use a ballast weight plus my loaded tires when lifting heavy loads.Good lesson learned..

I really try and remember to put the lap belt on, just incase I drop into something and don't want to become a cushion for the tractor. It might be because i live on sloped uneven ground.

G'day Bunyip... filling an empty counterweight/ballast-box with sand will be OK-ish but it will depend on the coarseness of the sand, which will settle over time and usage.

A few bags of mixed cement would be better and you can add a couple of upright poly tubes to carry some handled tools if you'd like. There are a number of TBN threads showing what other Members have done.

I've used bricks in mine. I'm also keeping my eye out for a used/broken 'weight machine' where I can reuse the rectangular weights to replace the bricks.

Burder box, they reckon about 500-600kg full of packing sand.

I tried that but it held his place in the thread and just censored the post and I found that equally if not more annoying.

It does hold the post position, but the post itself cannot be read, unless you click on it to read.
No click = No read,.....unless part of a "Reply With Quote".

I can accomplish the same when I see his name on the post.

Rear wheel weights or loaded tires do nothing for ballast. If that is all the weight that you have on the rear of the tractor you may cause undue wear and tear on the front axle of your tractor. The rear of the tractor will stay on the ground somewhat but the weight of the load is being held up by the front axle. If you think of it like a physics problem it is pretty simple. The weight of the bag is transferred to the front axle and it is trying to lift the rear axle. This results in the rear tires coming off the ground. You need to put enough weight behind the rear axle so that the rear axle becomes the pivot point, not the front axle. This will keep the rear tires on the ground and lightens the load on the front axle.

We do disagree on this one.
I find his posts to be somewhat challenging, and certainly unique.
I did live in South Louisiana for a few months in the early 60's.
Great folks, with their very own deep dialect language.

If that was the best he could do I’d be more sympathetic but I’m fairly certain he’s taking more energy to write like that and doing it on purpose in a poor attempt to be cute.

Incorrect.

When the tractor rear comes off the ground, the front axle is the fulcrum and both rear wheel weights and loaded tires provide some counterbalance.

However, the same rear wheel weight and/or loaded rear tire weight on the Three Point Hitch is much more effective due to leverage of weight positioned further to the rear.

And the front wheels are 'floating' so once the back wheels are off the ground the main body of the tractor can move/roll sideways on the pivot point on the front.
