I agree, I hardly ever say something is great, but Band of Brothers is great. I’ve seen it all the way through several times. It is very historically correct, which it should be, it’s a true story. I read the book several years before also. Good book.

I read the book a few years ago. If the movie is equally good then I may have to watch it.

It's probably my all time favorite. Originally from HBO 20 years ago, Tom Hanks & Spielberg producing. 10 one hour episodes with comments from the former soldiers. A coworker gave me the DVD set as a retirement gift.

Mt Currahee is about an hour's drive from here...I have been to the top several times...the road up used to be in fairly good shape but is no longer maintained like it once was...the trucks that carry the service crews up there for the many antennas take a beating...

I just watched a documentary 'Icemen 200 years in Antarctica'...it was primarily about an Australian's solo, unsupported expedition across Antarctica...the most amazing fact to me was that at one point in the expedition the closest he was to another human being was the crew of the International Space Station when it passed over his location...!

All Creatures Great and Small is a good new show on PBS. It's set in 1930s Yorkshire and follows the adventures of a country vet practice.

I loved the original series and read all of the books. Eventually, read the biography of Herriot that was written by his son. Kinda a spoiler to know what happened to the vets later in life... :D

Funny enough, we signed up for BritBox last year and have been rewatching the original series. Then we saw the announcement for the new series and wondered how good it would be. Then we saw who the actor is who will play Tristan and thought that was good casting. The new series is pretty good, though I think they have changed some of the stories line around a bit which I don't like, but all in all, the three episodes have been most excellent.:D:laughing:

If I had seen the original series, which caused me to read the books, earlier in life, I would have changed my career choice to be a vet....

One interesting tid bit about Herriot. They lived in the area he worked all his life. When his book started making money he had a tough decision to make since this was when they had high taxes, frankly a confiscatory tax, of over 80%!. The Beatles song Tax Man is about this high tax. Anyway, the money was rolling in from the Herriot books, and he had to make a choice to stay or go. If he had left the UK he could have kept much of the book royalties, if he stayed in the UK, well, the Tax Man would get the money. He stayed in the place he loved and paid the Tax Man.

The Heart Guy on the Acorn channel. Light funny drama about an Australian hotshot surgeon that gets sentenced to his rural hometown hospital for partying too hard.

Thanks! Will have to see if we bet this on Britbox. It sounds interesting.

We watched a three part series on Britbox that was from/about Ireland in the 50's, or maybe early 60's. Very good, kinda dark and should have had more episodes. Three was too few.

We have been rewatching the Miss. Marple series with Joan Hickson, Miss Marple (TV series). The series was digitally remastered and the video quality is astounding, https://www.dft-film.com/case-studies/Miss-Marple.html.

Rewatching has made me appreciate Agatha Christie's humor. :D
