I have had good luck pulling the head, poring oil on top of the pistons and let it sit for an hour or so. Then using a block of wood and a hammer to drive down on the piston that is highest. Usually will break free with little effort.

Once free, I rotate the engine through several times and soak up any remaining oil off of the cylinder before going back together.

This is the quickest way I know even though it requires some wrenching.
Fantastic tip and I will certainly keep this in mind! I tried rocking with a 2x4 and 2x8 last night, and all I succeeded in doing was digging a 1 foot hole with the board - ground was a little wet too though

No, I haven't tried that yet. May give that a shot this evening if the grounds not too wet, appreciate the idea. Wish I had a second person who could help me rock it but unfortunately don't.

You might try rocking using some sort of come along or winch. Use care ad forcibly pulling could cause severe issues in a cylinder wall, but it may give you the ability to watch while putting pressure against it. Modern winches frequently have wireless remotes with distance range. Again I would just want to rock it not drag it out in gear.

So everyone didn't think I just disappeared without giving what my solution was, and I'm sure I'm going to regret it later on, but I sold the 2000 just a min ago on a whim...

Posted it for sale a couple months back and procrastinated a guy after deciding not to sell it. He reached back out today and I told him to come on. I'm sure I'll be having seller's regret very soon...but I just have too many projects I'm currently working on. Appreciate all the help from everyone and see yall on other threads in the future!

Definitely not the way I wanted to fix it, but I really want to finish restoring my '52 Ford F1. Just finished rebuilding the original flathead for her. Off to get that back in and everything else situated. Hoping to be ready for the road by summer.

I was open with the guy and told him everything that was going on, so wasn't hiding anything. He claims he's a collector, but for all I know he's going to fix it and sell it for much more, and if so, no worries on my end - his tractor, his choice, but I do hope he keeps her and gets good use out of it like I did.

This is my flattie I just finished for the 52. I know it's an odd green but the 52 F1 was the only year F1 that used this same color engine too, 48/51 were tangerine red - doing a factory resto on her.
