I read this thread yesterday on my home laptop, including the discussion about phones only ringing for known callers.
All day my i-phone has been trying to get me to activate that feature. Coincidence? Maybe, or perhaps people have good cause to distrust Apple and other sources.

Ha! That was a whole other thread a month or so ago.

People were convinced Alexa was listening.

I remember that now. I don't have Alexa... partly for that reason but mostly because I don't see the need.

I turned off Siri on my phone for the same reasons.

By BIL was visiting one day, and his cell phone spontaneously started yabbering about something. His Siri thought someone was talking to her.

I like my technology to shut up and do what I non-verbally tell it to do.

I said to manager I guess he makes more fighting than settling... She said write the check!

Gheez, I wish you guys would stop spelling stuff wrong - the correct spelling is, “She said write the CHEQUE.”

When you get asked a question on a call that seems weird, do not say Yes, or anything if you can.
No one seems to know why these people want us to say Yes, but ....

Used to get 3-4 texts a day on my work phone to a guy who used to have the number.
Even today, 3 years later I still get a few a month, delete, block number and move on.

By the way, when I first got my iPhone for work, it took 5 steps to block number and delete text.
It now tales 12 steps. So helpful of Apple.

I do sometimes talk to my phone or computer... but nothing that I could ever repeat here. I sometimes think that companies should hve somebody listen in while their "customers" are on hold... it would be a learning experience for them.

Supposedly the telemarketer uses the clip of "yes" as proof that you agreed to purchase their product or service.
I was supposed to be arrested 3 times a few days ago. The voicemail said I must call the "concern department".

I know this stuff sounds humorous, but my wife got really rattled by the arrest phone call a few weeks ago. Same story... your SSN is compromised, being used by a drug cartel that rented a car and was found with a body in it, you must cooperate blah blah blah. She called me on the side of the road in tears, but didn't give any information (they already had quite a bit). The only mistake she made was allowing the scammer to continue talking. They REALLY escalate the threats if given the chance.
