The subject of food allergies brings up a tangent point about restricted diets...

Half of all America adults suffer from hypertension and less than a fourth of them have it under control...

Ever watch a cooking show by any of the celebrity chefs and cooking show hosts...they ALWAYS add salt...many times repeatedly...
I have even seen them criticize comments by viewers that complain about them (TV chefs) using too much salt...saying they know what they are doing and basically the average basic viewer is ignorant...!

In the same respect most restaurants do the same and very seldom do you ever see "reduced sodium" versions available from their kitchens...

Folks that have to or need to limit their sodium are pretty much out of luck when it comes to prepared or packaged meals etc...almost everything has salt added...yes you can find some canned goods and and some dry mix products with reduced sodium...but generally to eliminate salt completely you have to start with all fresh meat and produce etc...

IMO...there should be a law that says if you produce a video that shows someone putting salt in recipe they should be made to make a public service warning about the dangers of high blood pressure...[/RANT]

The reason chefs add salt many times is that it takes time to incorporate and absorb into the food. Adding it over time helps it blend into the different ingredients you add later in the recipe, not just the initial ingredient. Adding it at the end is like eating salt from the shaker. I am not a big salt fan, but I do add a bit many times while cooking.

You missed the point...NO salt should be added without a disclaimer...!

sodium is sodium...doesn't matter when its added...it's still poison to many people...ignorance is not learning about or substituting alternatives...

Electing to use a substance merely for taste or flavor that is unhealthy to many is a fools end...!

I come from a long line of salt eaters. If the food dosen't look like powdered sugar was put on top, it needs more salt.

My grandfather was never on heart meds.
My father (70) has never had a heart med
Me, (40) has never had a heat med.

My father used to eat large salt crystals like it was candy in the summer. He felt that he had to replace the salt in his sweat. He died recently at 93. His shoulders and back were wore out from too much physical labor. I don't think the salt affected his life. Oh by the way his blood pressure was low.

The correlation between salt and high blood pressure, independent of other factors, is pretty low.

If you have heart issues, you have heart issues.

Seems more related to obesity than salt intake from what I understand.. and what my Dr. tells me, "lose a few pounds" and I probably won't need any BP meds.
