Kioti Broken in Half

I don't know then what the definition of a good loader or digger is. My Case digs fast. I have dug plenty of ditches and holes plenty fast, at least fast to me. And I don't know why it's not a good loader. I can fill the bucket fast, it will lift a full bucket of rocks, it has a nice float function, it back blades well, it lifts plenty high so I can dump stuff on the top of high piles. What would make it significantly better? And it has a shuttle shift, the best transmission invention I can think of. No clutching required to change direction. Woo Hoo!

A center pivot loader will make your and my LTBs look silly using them for a loader.

An Excavator will make your and my LTBs look silly using them for a hoe.

Could I weld them together into one machine?

A full size hoe is a pretty good machine. They’re strong, durable and fairly affordable to own used. They can move themselves down the road something an excavator can’t do. They can load, transport and dig. Which neither the excavator or loader can do by themselves. But a backhoe looks silly compared to what an excavator and loader can do working together. Yes I understand it’s more practical to own a backhoe than it is to own multiple pieces of equipment but strictly comparing performance there’s no comparison.

I have a CTL which weighs around 9500 pounds and a mini x which weighs about the same and a 410 backhoe which weighs 18,000 pounds. The mini and skid can’t out muscle the hoe not surprisingly since it’s way bigger. But for any job that requires precision and efficiency the mini and skid makes the hoe look bad. If you were comparing equal size equipment to take away the brute force advantage then the hoe would look useless in comparison.

The mini and the skiddy sure have helped make backhoes affordable tho. (y)
A friend of mine has a Deere 310 with a cab and factory AC which was pretty rare for his machines age. He’s getting up there in the years and has been hinting around at selling it to me cheap when he decides to hang em up. Its his baby and he takes great care of it.

If you did you would destroy a LOT of their individual efficiency. That's their advantage of a TLB.

Agreed. It would be close to impossible to build a loader/digger that can turn 360 degrees, keep the cab to the side of the boom and not put the engine between the operator and the loader bucket. Giving up any of those features is a considerable disadvantage.

Mecalac does it. Both wheeled or tracked.

You did realize that my tongue was planted firmly in my cheek when I asked about welding them together, right?

I forgot about those. But when you’ve exceeded the cost of an excavator and skid steer or loader combined what was gained?

One machine easier to load & trailer. One less operator if you need both at same time.
Probably less maintenance. But 2 machines has some advantages

I don't know. Never priced one.

The dealer for Mecalac, somewhat close to me, sells roughly one of these machines a week, the tracked one though. Which is quite good considering this is a small country and how skeptical people were about these machines. They're gaining some momentum.

For the most part, small contractors really love their JCB 1CX and won't get rid them for anything.
The small mecalac is 160k at my dealer.

Absolutely. I responded for those that might not have caught that. :)

2 operators in 2 machines can get more done. You can work 2 sites at once with 2 machines which I do frequently. Also if one machine were to break you still have half your equipment vs none. I wouldn’t be anti the idea if the cost was reasonable but that’s more money than I have in my CTL, mini excavator, backhoe, and dump truck combined.
