FedEx truck dangles off overpass after crash in Indiana

A crash left a FedEx truck dangling off an overpass onto railroad tracks in Indiana. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the driver was not injured.

....
FedEx ground doesn't own the tractors. They don't have much say about who the contractors hire. That's why they seem to make the news like this so often. It's a stupid thing to do in my opinion.

Here in Holland, its DHL and DPD who hire self employed, bid for too little so trying to beat the clock drivers in battered vans that are notorious.

Guy i know is crane driver. Last year he had a job hanging window frames on the backside of a building whilst standing on the roadway, outriggers only extended on the lift side to be courteous to other traffic. He felt his crane move, and immediately one of the window fitters started yelling over the CB that the ******* shouldnt make unexpected moves because he could just pull away his hands to prevent getting it crushed. He radio'd back and said he didnt do anything, before they saw a delivery van with the side torn open over the full width, and with red paint of the crane ballast all over it. The guy didnt stop, he just drove on....

If you have skill nor sense, you can allways lease a van and deliver packages... as long as their name isnt on the van, they really dont care how these drivers get the packages delivered.

If the crane's counterweights extended into the travel lane, the operator didn't do any favor for passing motorists (or the window installers) by not deploying his outriggers.

Outriggers should have been extended to match the counterweight's swing and at least coned off (if not blocking the lane with a vehicle).

DHL uses a subcontractor for all there delivery and hauling needs here in the states. Drivers work for the subcontractor, not DHL.

Of course quality control sufferes because of it.

Maybe thats the construction here too. Anyhow, the deliverers arent the sharpest tools in the shop, they bid way too low, so they have to race like idiots with overloaded vehicles that have no MOT (or whatever its called in the US) not often with canvas coming through the tires, because they dont earn a living if they play by the rules.

Its just madness here.

DHL used to be similar to UPS and FedEx handling local/ state deliveries as well as overseas.

But they dropped the local delivery network here in the states and are only handling overseas stuff now. So their trucks aren't as prevelant on the roads anymore.

We do have some nutty FedEx and ups drivers running around.

Had a subcontractor from UPS try to drop off an Engine for 20xx to 2012 series dodge ram truck one day.

I pointed out to the contractor that someone goofed on their paperwork. The engine is probably meant for the Carmart refurbish shop behind us.

He said "Well.... it's got your companies name and address on it!!!"

I said "Yup.... that address is also for all those different buildings behind us in the industrial complex!!!!! Might want to call your dispatcher for clarification. But we don't deal with automotive engines at our location!! Someone probably screwed up the shipping label!!!!"

In all fairness to the FedEx driver I read where a car spun on the ice in front of him and he attempted to avoid running him over.

I live not far from there and that's what was reported on the local news. Weather and roads in the area were a mess that day with accidents all over the place.

Every time we get snow and/or ice, the US20 bypass is like a demolition derby. Plus, it seems like no one that drives on it ever heard that slowing down when the conditions are bad on the roads is a good thing.

Here in Europe, among the trucking community it is a common hobby to photograph or video crashed or stuck trucks of one of the largest trucking firms in Europe: the Hungary based Waberer. Obviously, a CDL for a tractor trailer in Hungary isnt the same as in Western Europe, where you easily spend 5 to 8 grand on a full license, and a commercial drivers permit (let alone an ADR certificate required to transport fuel and chemicals)

Its not just that its a big firm with a lot of trucks on the road so statistically there are more Waberer trucks involved in mishaps than the small local company, its also that they keep driving smashed trucks back to Hungary

That'll buff right out.
If the truck stays in the left lane the barriers may repair his truck for him
