Mine is exactly 72”
I think mine is set at the widest point. I asked the dealer to do that and he said he did. I need to go look again. I did measure the width and it’s exactly 72”. It’s pretty stable so even if it’s not at its widest setting I’m happy with the current configuration.Interesting. I can't find the MX5400/6000 manual online, but did find the 4800/5200. I'll assume the 5400/6000 is similar.
The 4701 R4 rims can be set to 49.2in, 53.5in, 54.7in, and 59.1in from center of tread to center of tread. The 5200 can be set to 51.6in, 55.9in, 58.1in, and 61.2in. So wider footprint overall.
The tread width of a 17.5L-24 R4 is around 16", so I would think the tread footprint of the MX could extend up to 77" or so at the widest setting, meaning a 72" implement wouldn't cover its tracks.
IMO, powder coating is isnt all its cracked up to be. Especially in the norther states with road salts.Apologies for the hijack, but looking to replace my old BB 72, was hoping to find a dual tail wheel rotary cutter with a galvanized or at least powder coated deck. Interested in the new Land Pride, but paint or powder coat? Is it built as well as the Woods? No one seems to powder coat or at least talk about it in their ads, and Modern seems to be the only company offering galvanized models.
My r/c biggest enemy’s are rust from neglect & abuse from cutting sloped ditches & levees hence the unusual “wants”.
I have the LandPride RCF-2072 (on an MX5400). Just right. I don't use it too often in the woods, but sometimes I do. However when it comes to the woods it isn't the width that is the problem for maneuvering (at least for me), it's the length. The cutter must extend at least a full 9 feet back from the 3PH, that makes turning around in the forest quite tricky. For field work, it's perfect. Slightly wider than the tractor. I wouldn't want something where the tractor was wider than the cutter.Trying to decide between a 60" or 72" brush cutter.
Tractor: MX5400 4x4 w/ loader
Cutter Brand: Woods (what my trusted dealer carriers)
Intended cutter use:
A larger cutter would allow my to cut around the pond more quickly but I'm worried it would get in the way when maneuvering in the woods, might impact my tractor's PTO ability to clear saplings, and/or could cause more of a tip hazard when cutting the dam. My neighbor has a 60" and he loves it, but mx5200 is 2wd and doesn't have a loader so it's not a 1:1 comparison.
- Cutting grass around a pond and along a dam bank which has an incline
- Clearing brush in lightly wooded areas (looking at 3" cutting capacity)
Update
After talking to my local dealers and what they have in stock, here are the models I'm considering:
- Titan 1606
- Woods BB72.50
