I wanted to start a thread to confirm that there is not much difference in some of the strange things that go on small towns. Anything goes.

For me, we only get USPS mail 3 days a week(M,W,F) in the late afternoon. Packages that won’t fit in a small mailbox won’t be delivered. If you get a package you have to have a tag to pick it up at the post office. So if something arrives on Friday afternoon at the post office, the website will say “available for pickup“, but you can’t pick it up until Monday afternoon when they put the tag for the package in your box. And then you have to hurry before the post office closes at 5pm.

Our post office has 1 delivery route and serves 3 townships of maybe 1500 people, very well could be more as it’s mostly Amish and they have 85 kids each but we get delivery 6 days a week. The lobby has 24 hours access. My small town does not plow roads after dark or on Sunday it makes getting to work a chore in the morning. Once you make it to the county or state roads it’s clear sailing

Same deal here in Northern WI. Used to have great service from USPS. Had same rural carrier for years. Bought largest mailbox for pkgs. If it didn't fit in mailbox on road carrier would bring to house in summer, leave in bin at end of driveway in winter. Mail service 6 days a week. Now lucky to get three deliveries a week, no regular carrier, mostly subs on our route. One carrier left larger packages on the ground by mailbox on township road. Fortunately one of our neighbors brought them to the house for us.

My small town has a Chinese restaurant that could easily qualify as one of the worst restaurants in the State. On the other hand, we have a indoor plant store that qualifies for one of the best indoor plant stores in the State (never mind it is the only store I have ever seen that only sells indoor plants)

I have a PO Box. They used to lock the door after hours but now I can get in anytime that I need it. For packages too big they will leave a key to a larger box. For items which are too big for that I have to visit during regular hours.

When I moved here in 2003 there were 2 stores in town, one was a convenience store with gas and diesel, open from 4:00 AM- 8:00 PM. The other was just a convenience store owned by an older couple. I think it mostly gave them a chance to get out of the house and see their friends.
Now there are no stores in town, and I have to drive 20 miles in any direction for fuel.

My county plows wind rows for at least 100 yards up wind of the roads. If that is on your property you get your driveway mostly plowed by the county.

Funny thing is I go out to main road to get my mail today and a Chewy box with $100 worth of prescription dog food is in the snow bank next to mailbox☹️

Just now USPS just delivered a package to garage where I am. They're pretty nice here.
We're pretty fortunate although nobody wants to work, they need delivery people.

FedEx did the same to me today. New muck boots 600 feet from my house at the edge of the road. Luckily I saw them as they did it. Because there was a car slowing down to snatch them up…

It's a 20 minute drive from my place to town. No close neighbors. Most Nevada towns have a red light district. Prostitution is legal everywhere except Reno and Las Vegas...where prostitution is rampant.

We have 8 class 3 Tesla charging stations and probably 1 Tesla in a 50 mile radius.

We have 1 stoplight.
Nearly fifty years ago the nearest small town to where I grew up put in a second red light. I'd moved away and didn't know about it. I pulled up to the intersection and stopped like I always had and couldn't figure out why the police car on the other side didn't pull out. After a while, I decided the officer must be watching traffic or something made a left turn. The next thing I knew, the new Chief of Police stopped me for running the red light. When I explained the situation, he gave me a warning.

We have the normal small town in the west politics, mostly dominated by LDS folks, because they vote as a block. Hive minded folks.

We are the commercial hub for two counties, so though the town in only at about 2000 people, the service area gets it up to about 4000. The big towns are 2.5 to 3-hours away, so unless you’re desperate, you go with Amazon, or have one of the local stores order things for you.

We have an ACE hardware, which is the highest volume store in the Ace group. They get freight twice a week, If you let them know you need something by noon on Saturday, they will have it in stock Monday’s at about 1300. Or Wednesday by noon, they can get it in on the Thursday truck. Local grocery is the highest volume store in the IGA, has a good selection in stock and they will special order things if you ask, but you may have to buy a whole case of it. When I’m putting together the Christmas dinner boxes for the food bank, they sell it to me for cost. The local lumberyard is part of an association of 8 lumberyards in Montana northern Idaho. So, they can get you small quantities of things, like 8-sheets of pre-finished AA maple ApplePly Plywood, instead of having to get the whole bunk. We have a good independent tractor repair shop, and three auto parts stores, two of which can order parts for agricultural, mining, and construction equipment, and get them here the next day

We have two stoplights, and there is discussion of moving one of them a few blocks up the road, so it lines up with the new ambulance shed and fire department.

The ritzy part of town where I grew up puts on a nice Christmas display every year, including candles in paper bags lining the road. I used to get into town early Christmas morning and drive through it with my parking lights on. One year I drove through the 4 way intersection the way I'd driven and ridden all of my life for 30+ years... and the car stopped at the sign for the other direction blared his horn at me.

I hadn't noticed they had changed it to a 4-way stop.

One of the nice things about my place is that the first 6 mile stretch Is paved. That is because many of the elected county officials live in that stretch. Well it was just repaved this last summer. Perfect smooth 2 lane county road now. Well I’ve been driving on it enjoying myself till a couple weeks ago one of my neighbors calls me as I wave driving past and tells me I need to slow down. I say “I am only going 53 in a 50”. He says it is a 40 MPH now! There is only 1 speed limit sign as you leave the main road 5 miles from my place. I never noticed!
