Long hair care for busy farmers

The only barber business it killed was the old school guys who only knew how to cut hair 2 ways...a crewcut or a "regular". The barbers who adapted to the new ways did just fine.
There was a barbershop where I lived in the late 60s/70s whose gimmick was all female barbers. Not uncommon today, but rare back then. Not a hair salon, IIRC they didn't even do womens' cuts (a separate license was required). Friend of mine told me about the place...felt a bit weird at first, but the prices were reasonable and they did a great job, which was more than I could say for some of the male barbers in town. Plus it was nice having a woman's hands in my hair. :)

One thing I was a bit surprised to see come into style was hair gel for men...the modern day equivalent of Brylcreem or butch wax. Ugh. Couldn't get way from that stuff fast enough!

Yeah, I'm seriously considering training my nose hairs into a mustache. :ROFLMAO:

Sorry you're still stuck in 1958. Men don't have to settle for lousy haircuts anymore.
When you're barbering in a town with a population of 200 people plus rural area and a lot of the boys stop getting haircuts for a year it takes its toll on your business. Even adults started wearing their hair longer. I believe the price back then was $1.50 for a cut, $2 on Saturday. Pop was 10 cents for a 10 oz. bottle. free candy for youngsters.

And Kennedy killed the hat business btw. ;)

This is funny if anyone hasn't seen it!

My dad was a barber in the 60's, he hated the Beatles, said they killed the barber business😅 He still holds his license to this day even though he carries mail full time.
My grandfather was a barber. My father had his barber's license in his late teens through college and would cut hair for extra cash. They were both bald. 🙃

Tallow is rendered suet. I use it for cooking, skin balm, soap and shampoo. I love my homemade tallow shampoo bars. I get the suet whole from the butcher then chop it up and render it in the slow cooker or dutch oven. I go through affair bit.
I also make pemmican with it.

True pemmican. Not the jerky type. I found a way to separate it further. This stuff is hard as candle wax. I can step on it and not make a print in it. I think it is true tallow.

I haven't had long hair since high school. It's been a buzz cut since I was 19.

I have interesting hair. In the winter, static will make it go all over the place and I can't do anything with it. Parts will randomly go where they please.

In the summer, heat and humidity make it stand straight up on end like I stuck my finger in a light socket.

Mom got me my first buzz cut for my 5th birthday while dad was serving in Viet Nam. She asked for it and then read a magazine. When she looked up, she was shocked. My hair was straight before that but was always curly after. In HS, medium length 'feathered' hair was popular. I couldn't wear a hat in winter because my hair would not lay flat after I took it off. Tough in sub zero winters. Once I cut it short again as an adult, I wished I would have done so in HS. Probably could have worn one size smaller FB helmet. Hahaha

Yeah, that was my issue in the winter as well. Pull a hat off and it would go wherever it felt like.

Used to get the clippers on the side and scissors on top, until I got old enough to say something.

Mullets were popular in highschool. My hair is straight short, but goes into ringlets long.

Once out of school though and entered the work force, it's been buzzed ever since.

3 guard on top, 2 on the sides in winter. 2 and 1 in the summer

Nice and easy, and I don't have to do anything with it.

Similar. When I first bought my own clippers, my wife was going to cut it but was afraid she would mess it up. I told her not to worry, worst cast just remove the guards and buzz it all at zero and it will grow back...well less grows back every year and more of it comes back white!
