Are you planning on pulling the stumps?

As of now, no. The owner is content to leave them.
I am hoping to get the grass seeding & strawing and the debris pile chipping.

What is the thinking behind the owner's decision not to cut the stumps closer to the ground if they intend to leave the stumps?

The groundskeeper wants to be able to see them when he mows between them.
Not my property and not my decision.

I was just curious what they were thinking. One thing about pine is they can rot faster than some hardwoods.

The groundskeeper may not want to get into removing the stumps presently because of the size of the overall cleanup to do right now. But he may want them removed later after the hassle of mowing around them for awhile.

Took 100 years to grow and gone in minutes
There white pine. I would suspect the biggest 40in tree isnt any older than 65yrs old. At that age they where even more of a ticking time bomb than normal. Breaking in half and loosing branches is what these trees do.

Removing that many large stumps would definitely make a big mess. Grinding would be better than digging with a hoe but removing all the chips and replacing with soil would still be a big job.

A taller stump will rot out 2-3X faster than a low stump. Easier to grub out later with less ground impact. Have a 10-20 I’ll knock with FEL to check progress. Both hardwood and pine.
