Hi, new to the forum. I just bought 7 acres and looking to demolition an old house and build a couple houses and shop. I have an opportunity to purchase a JD tbl110 and thought I could do all these projects with it. It comes with 2 buckets and forks and bucket up front. Plan on putting a thumb on it too. I have a couple of friends telling me that it would be frustrating and slow, and my money would be better spent on a excavator 3.5t minimum. Would also need a skid steer. Double the $$. What are your thoughts? I'm not a machine operator these controls over those controls don't mean much to me. Thanks for any input. Cheers

Welcome to TBN..................

Be careful buying a JD tlb110. Many (not all) had problems with cracking around the bellhousing. Check it good for any welding repairs. An excavator will work way better and faster for digging foundations than a tlb.

What are your plans for a tractor. IMO I wouldn't use a tractor for house demolition but would use one with a grapple for debris cleanup. I'm sure many others will reply.

The work you’re describing isn’t tractor work. Even grappling is going to be very slow and likely if very costly flat tires high. Skid steer sounds like the tool you need unless the structures are multi story, then just rent an excavator for a weekend. You’d be shocked what you can get done in a weekend with a 8+ ton machine against buildings.

Why not have a contractor demolish the old house. They will have the gear to do so easily and safley.
Demolition is NOT tractor type work.
Also a contractor to dig the footings for the houses will get the job done fast and accuratly.
You can then list the jobs you want to do to help you decide what type of tractor best meets your needs, then will the budget allow it.
From your description, you can start with landscapeing.
What is the land slope like?
Grass, forest , mixed?

Contractor quoted me 30k for demo and disposal. 30k almost pay for a decent used machine that I can use for all the projects on the property then sell it if I no longer need it. I am a contractor but don't have machinery. Just to be clear some thought I'm asking about a lawnmower tractor lol. I may not have been clear. I'm asking about a backhoe. I am aware of the bell housing issue and will inspect it carefully if I purchase it. Cheers
