Yeah I remember your shovel.I have a Pennsylvania Railroad coal shovel and a couple old time rail lanterns. Love Railroad memorabilia.
I think when I hit the “old codger” stage of life, I am going to build a replica of the rail system that once existed in my town.
I've always been amazed at how "wobbly" the new rail sections are - conforming to the uneven ground, when just laying on the ground like than.New rail being delivered between the Soo Yard and the International Bridge in Sault ste Marie, MI. 3-18-24 Note the size of this rail. This is what main lines are built with and the rail sections are 1/4 a mile long. In northeast Indiana along US30 near Columbia City, there is a Steel Dynamics steel mill that I think deals mostly with scrap steel. Next door is a rail factory. It's the yellow line in the left of the screenshot attached. It's 0.33 miles long. There are many of those cars lined up next to it. (click to enlarge).

Yep. It's fantastic. Just ignore that it's usually ranked in the top 3 most polluted states in the US.Indiana is great. You must have some affordable labor, low taxes and reasonable regulations for businesses. Good on Indiana.

We've discussed this several times in the past, and derailed (pun intended) several threads in the process. Here’s an example of what happens when industry is regulated out of existence in your state like here in PA
The top employers are
1. Fed Gov
2. State Gov.
The rest are colleges and drug companies.
Give me the railroads and the steel plants. I’ll be ok with a little pollution.
Thank you. I like this thread...I've got several paragraphs of reply sitting in my notepad. But per request of the general population, I'll save them for another thread.
