BIG DECISION - Cub Cadet manual says change "break in oil" at 5 hours. Kawasaki engine manual says change every year or 100 hours, whichever comes first. Kawasaki says nothing about "break in oil change". Right now, machine has 4.8 hours. Do I change oil right now, mow one more time, then change oil at 6+/- hours, or wait until 1 year/100 hours?

I think I will split the difference, mow one more time and change oil/filter at 6 hours +/- just to be safe.

Tested the bagger today, results in next posting.

I did mine at about 6 hours - had the same dilemma as you. As tacticalturnip says, it's just about getting any metal particles from manufacturing out of the system.

How's it mow with the weights? I mowed again today with the suspension adapter and I have to say it's so much better on my bumpy property. And it does seem to result in fewer PTO disengagements due to the seat sensor, even though I'm mowing faster.

I changed oil and filter at 6.3 hours and glad I did. The oil looked like honey with chocolate milk spilled in it. No big chunks, but quite a bit of fine "metallic goo" at the bottom of the pan. Given that, I wonder why Kawasaki didn't mention the break in oil change in their manual. Perhaps I just missed it.

I did find a good use for the seat belt during oil change. If you string it through the steering wheel and fasten it, it will hold the seat up for you to improve access to the engine or for battery work, etc.

With the bagger ON, I think the front weights are a MUST (which is why they are included with the bagger kit, I guess, duh). Without the bagger, only noticed slight difference. Steering slightly heavier, but not bad. Ride maybe just very slightly better. Traction on side slope, slightly better. Overall, I'm just glad the steering is still relatively light with the weights on, so I can just leave them on all the time.

CC triple bagger install and use thoughts:

This thing is BIG (compared to lawn tractor-sized unit I'm used to) and comes in a box the size of a coffin which is very heavy. Just looking at the instructions, assembly seems complicated, but once you have all the parts and fasteners in front of you, it becomes very clear and everything goes together perfectly. Extra hardware was provided, primarily because this kit is meant to go on two different types of machines (the other being the "regular" ztr). Upon first look, things seem a little flimsy, but once put together you realize that parts that need to be heavy, are, and the ones that don't, aren't, which is an approach I like in an attachment where you need to limit overall weight.

In use, the thing worked perfectly. I mowed in mid-morning and there was some dew on the grass, off of which I was cutting about two inches. No clogging and the grass chute is somewhat clear plastic, so you can see the grass going through it. Bag capacity is good and I was able to mow big chunks of the yard between empties. The front weights are a necessity and even with them, you REALLY notice the load when going up hill with full bags. Didn't feel unstable, but you want to take it EASY.

Concerns:

One thing I'm not crazy about is that you can't put the ROPS in the full down position with the bagger support frame in place. It is only held on by four bolts, but is enough trouble to remove that I am going to leave it on all the time. So, now have to keep the ROPS in the "middle" folded position, which is a little high for some of my trees. (I know, trim them up...). The thing is, it is SO CLOSE to working. The ROPS folds all the way down until it is tight against the support frame, but the U-bolts won't quite click and I don't think I want it actually touching it and wearing off the paint, rattling, etc., anyway. It only needs another 1/8" or so to clear - so close, yet so far....

The grass chute resembles a very large, clear piece of vacuum cleaner hose, i.e., a coiled plastic "spring" with thin, clear flexible plastic molded over it. The way it is installed is it is "screwed" (counterclockwise) over tabs inside the top chute housing. Works fine and stays in place, but I wonder how it is going to hold up long term, being screwed/unscrewed several times a year. So far so good, but I can already see a tear starting in the thin clear plastic sheath. At least it is extra-long, so there is plenty of room to keep "screwing it" on if the end starts getting messed up.

It's hard to tell how much grass is in the bags. On my lawn tractor, I could just reach back and feel the bags to know the fill-level, but on this, it's too far away. So you just have to guess at it or wait until you don't see the grass flowing in the chute anymore.
Not really a problem with the unit though and don't know how you'd fix it.

Don't like the way the handles are attached to the bottom of the bags. The handles are a webbing material and are sewn to the solid plastic bottom of the bags with something resembling fishing line, then the fishing line is heated and melted to the inside of the plastic bag bottom. I will be surprised if this makes it more than a couple of years before a fix is in order, but we will see....

Attachment of the boot to the mower deck is straight forward, easy and secure.

Overall, the bagger was expensive, but works great and I would buy it again.

Small request, if anyone still has their "mower chute stop bracket" that came with your Cub, could you please post up a picture or two?

As mentioned, "my dealer" refused to give me mine (which I paid for) citing safety reasons. Therefore, I am going to try to duplicate this part. I have had no luck finding a part number, picture or anything online except the line drawing in the owner's manual, which doesn't help much.

Would very much appreciate any assistance on this.

A piece of stiff wire with a hook bent in one end and hooked over the top of the defelecter shout, with the other end attached to something on the deck. Done !

I'm under the impression that ZTR's drive like a buck board unless they've got suspension, or a suspension seat. That was a warning I've heard repeatedly.
I started out looking at the ZTRs. The ride was way to rough for me. I came home with a Cub Cadet Pro Z 760 S. The 760 rides better than the JD X739 that I have been using.

Really?! That's some high praise!

By the way, what is it with Kawasaki and their parts numbers? This is a BRAND NEW engine with oil filter part number 49065-0731. I can't find this filter for sale ANYWHERE. Not at a Kawasaki dealer, not online, not in stores. I can find 49065-0721 and -7007 everywhere, but not this number. I get that part numbers are superseded all the time, but how can a part on a brand new engine be superseded so completely so soon.

I've been through the same thing with all of Kawasaki's numbers for filters and such on my Mule and mowers. Crazy...

OK, rant over.

Tested the bagger today, results in next posting.
Interesting. Our local Kawasaki dealer always has the oil filters in stock for our mule.

I bought a similar cub cadet ZT last June and never got to use it. It arrived with shipping damage, so I sent it back. Discovered they were back ordered with no shipping date available. So I ended up buying a Stihl zero turn from a local dealer off the floor. It has the four wheel suspension and I really like that because I’m mowing off yard native grass and the ground isn’t smooth. So far I’m pretty pleased with the unit overall and believe the suspension makes a huge difference. Hopefully a suspension seat will help to smooth out the ride on your machine.

If you ordered through Cub Cadet and the dealer won't provide the part you bought and paid for, maybe contact Cub Cadet directly to complain about the dealer's service. The downside could be the guy acting even worse next time you go into his dealership?

This blows my mind.
