Do You Have a Tractor Shed/Barn?

Just following. Looking at these steel tube shed kits for camp property use.

Have you found any that are specifically suited for high snowloads? Whats your ground snow load, i imagine its high? We are 108psf. Ive been looking at the versatube and competitors, they say they will design for any snow load but im still leaning toward a wood frame since that is what I know and do.

We did ask a builder that very same question. We are looking at 150psf if the construction ends up in a lake zone. But we have looked some that are not in it..

I built this over the summer to hold implements. I looked at the investment I have in implements and felt it was not good to have them sitting in the hot sun/covered in snow all winter. I plan to enclose 3 of the sides next spring.
It is only partially filled in this photo.

The RV shelter looks like one of those tube frame kits. If so, how was it to assemble?

It was a pre-fab kit. I purchased it with installation included. The pros got it done in about a half-day, maybe 3/4 of a day. would have taken me considerably longer. Plus I did not have to walk around on the structure like this.

It is 24 wide x 35 long x 12 high. I can get the 32 foot RV in it as well as my tractor, boat and two small utility trailers.

The implement cover is 40 feet long by 10 feet wide. I wanted to add a few more bays but ran out of room.

I do worry about the snow load on the RV shelter. if I see more than 2-3 feet building up I go knock it off.

Is there a concrete footing around the perimeter or how are you anchoring it? Where did you source the kit? Im still looking for metal car/rv/tractor covers that can cover our snow load. Ive talked to a few, but most won't do it. One said yes, but the price was so far beyond what it would cost me to build a wooden post style it wasn't even considered.

Is that like what they have in subdivisions or towns?

The permit process always starts at the zoning department…

Zoning is a go or no go with the option of filing an expensive appeal if zoning says no.

I’ve seen the appeal process take years and if approved the final version might not be what you want.

There always seems to be many reasons to say no and few to say yes.

I would love to have an open span 40x96 finished shop with a large gable end roll up door and 4 smaller doors down the side…

It’s been in the wish list over 40 years and have come close several times…

Yes, the blueprints call for a concrete footer. It is a steel masters kit. They can tell you about its snow load rating, it is also on the prints. Good luck!

Here’s a question for the collective knowledge of this site:
Ive contacted probably 15~20 of these metal carport ‘manufacturers’. Literally one has gotten me a accurate quote for what Im looking for. Most say yeah we can do that and then they disappear. Question is, Im assuming most of the places Ive contacted are really ‘dealers’ and not the ‘manufacturers’ they state they are.

Who actually manufactures the components? Any way to cut out the middleman and go straight to the source? Is it a case of some of the larger brands(ex:versatube) actually makes their components, and the smaller dealers are buying from them at wholesale unbranded kits?

Ive wasted so much time on this, I could be half done with a wood post cover….oh well.

I contacted one and asked about snow loads who did get right back with that. I assume it was the manufacture and not a dealer. If you have it assembled, then it might go to a contractor in the field. Can anyone else comment on this??

Yes. They got back to me after I filled out a quote request on their website. The sales guy asked if I had any questions. I replied yeah, whats the price? I then directly sent the sales guy my size and load requirements. Havent heard anything from them(9/4 I replied).
