You wouldn’t have had today’s diesel though
He'd have had an LB7 - not sure that would have been a better choice. Some have had good success, many have had lots of repairs in that time.

I didn't buy our older 1 ton for mileage. I usually tow 5-7k a couple times month but we haul gravel, wood, etc all the time. My wife drives a 1/2ton most of the time and I drive a car for my work commute.

We bought our Tundra to tow a travel trailer after I retired. That is all it was used for until we had to stop travelling, we still have it. It has been perfect in reliability having only had/needed scheduled oil changes and a set of brake pads, it rides (at least to us) better than most cars and is a pleasure to drive. It's main use now is as a grocery getter.

We also have a 1 ton flatbed that was bought for use on the property, mostly for hauling hay and supplies for the horses. Horses are now gone but having become so accustom to that nice big space that can be used for most anything I want or tow equipment trailers without concern of scratching or dinging it up, so it is not going anywhere. It is really the daily driver (one maybe two trips a week) since usually every trip to town involves also picking up something I really don't want in the Tundra.

We just prefer pickups over cars simply because they fit our life style better than an car ever could.

Doesn't necessarily have to be either/or! I keep a pickup truck in the driveway, for when I need it. I also keep a car in the garage, for when weather and what I'm hauling allows it.

Much more fun to hop in a sporty car to go pick up milk or a kid from school, than lumbering into town in a pickup truck.

Yes. I have a newer Ram 1/2 ton with a 5.7L Hemi, 8HP70 trans, and 3.93 rear. It's a rocket, by comparison to pickups I've owned in the past.

But it's still a total turd, in comparison to every sporty sedan or coupe I've ever owned. :D

Really? My buddys stock 6.6L Chevy will blow the doors off many typical cars. maybe not the sporty ones….
It’ll lay a set 100’ long, locked, twin black stripes.

The guy who buys a 6.6L pickup is probably not buying "typical" cars! :D

Yeah, my truck can leave a nice burnout, it has a limited slip rear and a light a$$. But the car has an extra 100 ponies and 65 lb-ft more torque thru a full posi rear, so it wins every time!

Must be some car to have more TQ than a V-8 truck motor.

My truck is only a 5.7L Hemi motor... because that's the biggest motor Ram offered that year. But my car has the 6.4L Hemi.

I was actually kind of bummed I could get the 6.4L in a car, and an SUV, but not a 1/2 ton pickup truck.
