75% of truck owners tow 1/year or less?

My truck is only a 5.7L Hemi motor... because that's the biggest motor Ram offered that year. But my car has the 6.4L Hemi.

I was actually kind of bummed I could get the 6.4L in a car, and an SUV, but not a 1/2 ton pickup truck.

Put you in a Cummins and you won’t even remember what a gas motor was….

Hmm. My '21 1500 is "newer" I suppose, but while it's fairly quick it is definitely not fast. Thank the 118 mph speed limiter for that.

And while I really like my Cummins, I wouldn't want one in my 1500 or the fun car.

Low end torque is addictive, yes...

Once had a loaner car from the garage. I merged in at the end of the on-,ramp and nearly got rear ended. I pushed the throttle at 1500rpm and nothing happened, at least not what i am used to. I first had to drop two gears

Thats because of the weight distribution of an unloaded vehicle. Driving a chassis cab from the dealer to a body builder is even more fun

Straight line truck torque is addictive, but since I started driving in the 80's, I've owned a handful of 4 cylinder European imports of various brands - some turbo'd, some not, and for my mileage, every one of them could put its "fun" power to to the road far better than any truck I've owned. I like the ability to put my foot down through a turn and have no fear that I will come out the other end while still on the asphalt.

Every car trumped every truck, and then in the mid-90's, I bought a Ninja 600R, followed by an FZR1000. From that point on, I lost interest in performance cars (and trucks). You would have to mortgage a house to purchase in 4 wheels what you can do for a fraction of the cost on 2 wheels. It was like the greyhound catching the rabbit. It just stopped being a concern to me.

It doesn't really matter what I drive or ride, from 18-1/2 hp to over 700, I want to see how fast i can go through a curve with that vehicle.

In other words, it's not necessarily achieving the peak G-force number, but about how fast a given vehicle can go in a particular curve, whether it's a Lotus Super Seven or a Ram 3500.

I've personally drifted a long-bed dually C3500 over a winding stretch of road in light snow.

I can relate. One time driving on a reasonably familiar dirt road I had my Pete and trailer going sideways through the curves, wanting to know how it'd handle.

Remember thinking "This is stupid" and "This is fun" in about equal amounts.

Oh, and this one was f'ugly. Tailgate was shaped like a "U", because someone dropped a big (8" diameter x 10' long?) steel rod onto the tailgate from a forklift. An old company truck.

I was in an F250 regular cab, short bed, that was converted to a dually and painted flat forest green and flat black.

They shortened a long bed for a dually and slapped on it. So the flares started about an inch from the cab

I have the GMC 3500HD Denali 4WD crew cab long bed dually with the 6.6L Duramax and 10 speed Allison as my primary towing vehicle. It is big and averages 12 MPG. But with 470 HP and 975 pound-feet of torque it will pull my 25' Big Tex trailer with the Workmaster 75 on it with no problem. I did a 200-mile trip with the TC40DA for new tires and didn't even notice it behind me.

For a daily driver and backup towing vehicle I got a Yukon Denali 4WD with the 3.0 Duramax. It is rated to tow 8,100# so it can handle both my utility trailers without a problem. I put the Brembo 6 piston caliper front brakes with a larger rotor on it for additional stopping power, plus the max towing package with integrated trailer brake controller. I get a combined 25 MPG and usually 30 MPG on the highway so I don't complain about fuel usage. Best I have got was 34 MPG coming home down I-20 from Dallas with a tailwind.

I bought a 24 Colorado Z71 so I could tow my tractor and other stuff after I bought the land up north. It has a 7700 lb tow rating. Puts out 430ft lbs of torque. Went with the Colorado because I didn’t want a full size truck and it had the best tow rating in its class. I tow a 14ft 7k Sure-trac trailer no issues.

I had the giant truck in the past. I still live fairly close to Boston for now so getting around and parking in a big vehicle is sort of a pita.

In the end that was my choice. I don’t begrudge any one of theirs. If they want to buy a pickup and never use it for anything other than groceries, what do I care.

Isn’t the 4 door Colorado about the same size as a full-size two door Silverado?

Don’t here much about Super Seven these days.

My uncle did the circuit in the 60’s with his Super 7

It’s the only car I could be seated and reach out and touch the ground…

Neighbor toes a lot as in several times each week and over the years started with a diesel Excursion and crew cab 1 ton Dodge.

When not towing they drive the Miata…

He bases his mpg on the corp average of the diesel 1 ton and the Miata.

Good system, that works for you. But your story just reminded me of a guy I knew growing up, who drove a massive over-sized Peterbilt all over the country, with a special trailer so large they had to get DOT route approval for each time they moved it. His daily driver was a little MG convertible.

It was always amusing when he'd be at the shop, as he'd park the MG next to the rig, their difference in size being so extreme that it looked almost like a matchbox car next to a regular sedan.

I remember asking him about it once, and he basically said that after a week-long trip in the big rig, he looked forward to nothing more than getting into his little convertible and driving.

It is fun to drive, even in normal mode. I put it into Sport mode coming home today from town. Tightens up the steering and suspension, makes the throttle more responsive, but does burn more fuel.
