A lot of imagining going around without facts to back it up.

A few EVs have caught fire. Some had glaring design defects such as the Chevrolet Bolt. Other than that the data doesn't back the F.U.D.

More than a few ICE catch fire in garages.

My insurance has no concern about parking my EV inside.

Did you run that by them to guarantee they will cover an EV fire in an attached garage, or are you just hoping they will cover it in the event (not hoping you have a fire) you have a fire in your EV while in the garage? If they said they would cover it, make sure you get that in writing and store that letter in a fire proof vault.

Same insurance covers car and house. They asked where the car sleeps at night and lowered the rate for keeping it indoors.

So, no not all of it is fearmongoring, although there is a lot of that used in sales of vehicles from both sides of the fence. Fear sells.

Well, I wouldn't call insurance companies recommendations as fear mongering, especially since they will be footing the bill in one way or another when the battery has a run away condition. ICE car fires and Lion battery fires have only two things in common. Heat and oxygen. As far as the fire fuel goes, Lion battery's burn much, much hotter than a typical ICE electrical fire burns.

A fire flashover in a confined space is reached at 932F. That is anything that could possibly be combustable to a fire. The whole space (walls, ceilings, furnishings, storage materials combusts all at once when a flash over occurs. Seeing that LION fires are capable of reaching 3600F or higher very quickly and spewing out 10 foot long fire burst flames of chemical fire in every direction, it wont take but less than 2 minutes for everything in your confined space garage to spontaneously combust. That isn't fear mongering, that is scientifically proven facts by the NFPA. (Insurance companies kind of follow NFPA's suggestions)

Putting out a LION fire is very difficult. Water doesn't really phase it. Either you let it just burn out or you call in a big dump truck filled with sand or dirt and bury the entire car under it for a day or two. Kind of like magnesium metal fires in garages or shops. Don't hit it with a water stream. You'll regret that decision.

Hyundai and Kia reported 56 vehicle fires and “thermal incidents” (burning, melting, and smoking) related to this defect as of September 2023.

And then in the "Me too, EVs are easy to build! We'll just buy parts from lowest cost bidders!" department at GM, Chevrolet Bolt Battery-related fires: The initial recall in 2021 covered all 141,000 Bolt EV models (2017-2022) due to a manufacturing defect in the battery cell, which could cause fires. General Motors (GM) confirmed 16 cars had caught fire.

Then they had to do it again: A separate recall was issued for certain 2020-2022 Bolt EV/EUV models due to a manufacturing defect in the lithium-ion battery module, which could also lead to fires. GM replaced these modules with new ones.

Says the USA average is about 18M miles/fire, in 2022 Tesla is going almost 140M miles/fire.

Hey Clover. Was thinking about this again. I'm gunna go out on a limb and say these tractors do not even exist other than the couple show prototypes they made to display.
Think about it, not even a YouTube video of one out working in the real world. Only a couple promotional videos made by CNH.
Remember at the shows they wouldn't let anyone drive them....they were only set up to move the bucket and hitch.

Then you gotta think, if they are the next greatest thing, why don't any dealers have any out for demo? Or promoting them.
This is probably the same deal as when Deere showed off their new electric tractors at Agritechnica a few years back and they didn't have any power source in them at all. They were just there to say "this is what we would build if we could" then Deere put out the press release where they said "battery technology is not there yet."

And look at this years Farm Progress show. They said there was not a single electric tractor there this time on display from the manufacturers. Nothing but diesels.

The video came out 7 years ago. It is still not in production. This is from the Fendt press release dated 11/12/2023.

That thing has never seen a second of mud, dirt, grass or cow crap on it. It's a poser tractor. Everyone is standing around it ohhhing and ahhhhing, but it just sits there. Big press release for the greenies.......and then nuthin. Hook it to a 8 bottom plow and go turn some dirt with it and lets see how many minutes it lasts before it has to limp back to the massive diesel powered generator for a full charge.

I should say, today out of business

They basically fell off the face of the earth over a year ago. What few dealers there were, they were left stuck with un-bought inventory, couldn't get any parts, no service, no warranty repairs. All e-mails went unanswered for months. All of the phone calls went unanswered to the factory. The only thing that was active for a while was a website on some server, claiming how great their product and service was. They even skipped town on the rent for the building they were in.


I saw a few video reviews. I must say, I wasn't impressed even with it swinging a small brush cutter in 12"-15" grass. If I remember correctly, the thing wen't into limp mode on the way back to the guys shop after a couple of hours of light grass clipping.
