Marijuana on the job

How long does it stay with creams and ointments?

Costco even sells a product called Hempz.
You do realize that Hempz, as well as other similar products contain no intoxicating substances.

No… didn’t realize and I don’t know much on the subject and the reason I asked…

I do know poppy seeds used on baked goods have caused problems for the occupational medicine group…

Aside from an elderly relative who enjoyed cocktails there is no one in my family or extended family involved with drugs and no one has ever been involved with the law outside of jury duty.

I remember cupcakes and suckers laced with marijuana was a big deal in the news at one time so in my simple thought process thinking there must be more ways than smoking to be under the influence.

I question why HR/Ownership would willingly put themselves in the position of tremendous liability blacklisting an employee industry wide for refusing to RANDOMLY pee in a cup with the operative word being randomly.

It makes no sense when there is no correlation of cause and the payout could be millions…

Following the mine logic how can the state prohibit me from doing a criminal background check as part of the qualifying to lease a 2.5 million dollar property?

And if I as a Landlord provide a negative reference on a current or past tenant I am open to expensive litigation and the tenant receives free government legal aid.

  • Landlords cannot screen applicants for criminal history during the advertisement, application, selection, or eviction process.

  • No Blanket Bans:
Landlords cannot indicate that individuals with criminal histories will not be considered for housing.

  • No Requiring Disclosure:
Landlords cannot require applicants to disclose their criminal history.

  • No Negative Actions:
Landlords cannot refuse to rent, terminate a tenancy, or demand a higher security deposit or rent based on criminal history
No wonder the majority of voters voted the way they did. I doubt the inanity described above can be changed, though. "You can't fix stupid"

ultrarunner; in this country even if you have fired an employee for drug use after sending him/her to rehab twice, when a future employer calls for a reference you cannot say anything derogative about the prospect.
You can't say , "if you value the transmission in your trucks don't hire him/her.", or anything like that. Can't say that they showed up to work stoned/drunk every day.

Exactly and why many will not give any reference or limit to dates of hire.

Maybe the mining industry is different but saying failure to pee in this cup now means you will never work in this industry is how lawyers get rich.

We dealt with that situation by either asking the former employer, or giving an answer to a prospective employer of "Would you rehire this employee again" (knowing what you know now)?

We do the same asking would you rent to this person again…

Fewer are willing to answer and silence can say a lot…

My employer uses a third party online employee verification firm… just the minimum factual information provided with no possibility of asking a random question.

Heck… leadership will not even say someone is away on maternity leave because it has medical privacy implications…

The most you will get is the away dates and who to contact for assistance…

One thing I never understood, was one place I worked at that had a prohibition against pot use. I think it had to do with working with "Challenged Persons" and that the company got federal funding,... a bit of the two.... Anyway, the turnover there was pretty high. So we were always in a state of hiring people. What I never understood was, it was clear, the company didn't want to hire anyone that smoked pot. It was clear there was going to be a drug test after the passed interview. The lit told them that, and we, the interviewers told them that. There WAS going to be a drug test. And after a while, I would side chat with the applicant, privately, ask the applicant to please not waste our time, if you can't pass. Apply again, later if you really want the job. And they would all go, "Its okay, I'M CLEAN." And then 70% of them would fail the test. And these were people I wanted to hire.

This was a huge drain on everyone. To always be in a state of compensating for that lost person.

And even after the 90 day, and under full hire, if there was an event, "accident," one would get drug tested. And 20% failed then.

So, I don't get it.
I guess there are two things;
!) Everyone thinks they have a right to do whatever they please without any consequences.
2) You can't fix stupid.

You can require background check for renters in Virginia

They are purported to contain no intoxicating products.

Not at our school. The nuns would take you out in the hall and beat you so loud the entire class would hear it. That turned the whole class into tattle tails just to avoid the beating.

Nun: Who did this???
Entire class: Johnny and Billy!!!

That was followed by a scramble around the classroom as Johnny and Billy immediately ran for their lives from the nun. Desks and chairs slamming around, everyone running to get out of the way of the black and white terror. Usually you'd just run up and put your back against the wall to indicate you wanted no part of the fracas. While the kid(s) were getting beat in the hallway we'd straighten out the desks and just sit down and wait. Kids would come back in with tears streaming down their faces.

In the eight years I spent in that gulag, I had 2 lay teachers and 1 nun that weren't child abusers.

Catholic high school was completely different. Zero problems. Why? All lay teachers. Maybe 2 nuns that would substitute if needed, otherwise worked in the office.

Now, back to marijuana on the job, or in this case, in the school. It was everywhere in the 70s. I'd guess 90% of the student population either drank or smoked pot or both.
Chit, the nuns in my grade school had the fasted pointers in Fort Wayne, and they were not afraid to use them!
I do not even know how many times I was whipped with their pointers.
All you would know is you would hear the whipping sound of the pointer through the air, and then the stinging of the impact on your body!

And no one ever said anything cuz if you did, you would get more chit from your parents

There was no such thing as drugs grades 1-8 but one eighth grader was expelled for smoking after school…

Individuals would often receive a thrashing but more often it was because of Mr. Robinson’s or any number of other’s behavior earning the entire class extra pages of homework due tomorrow…

We had a tremendous amount of homework already so extra was piling on… all based on peer pressure.

Boy Girl home parties outlawed in conduct code and the principal would show up at a students home on a weekend if she got word of a boy-girl party happening… it was quite a scandal in the diocese and parents pushed back and won that fight.

My 5th grade nun had her 50th year teaching when I was in her class and she was 68 that year.

All 54 of her students chipped in 25 cents each and bought a huge sheet cake for $10 plus a card…

We did not have any homework that night!!!

Everyone had a job… one year my job was to clean the blackboard with a sponge end of each day… others wash windows, take out the trash, sweep outside, air up the balls… later I was audio visual and safety patrol Sargent of signs… at the traffic intersection…

It was quite different coming from public school…

I was so glad to get to high school where group punishment didn’t exist.

With High School came my first exposure to stoners… the stoners didn’t last long and if a girl became pregnant she was expelled…

I once got a call for a reference for a driver I fired. Knowing I couldn't (legally) say anything derogatory, I simply stated that he was excellent at running flat tires until they shredded, very good at being unable to back up a trailer without jack knifing it and talented at being unable or unwilling to check engine oil and water. The recruiter had a good chuckle and thanked me for the positive report.

I usually tell them that my mother always told me that if I couldn't say anything good about someone, do not say anything at all.

My 5th grade Sister (nuns are typically cloistered) was 76 and still wore the full habit. She was tough, but at least treated everyone the same. No nicknames. Had a classmate named Dale. She got frustrated that he had a short name (she'd taught his dad, Robert, too)

She kept teaching, too. I had an employee years later who had her at another school. She had to have been at least 80.

I had a Dutchman friend that told me about what life was like in a Catholic school. Made me thankful I was a Protestant and went to public school.
I didn't start smoking dope until I was into my 20s, I did smoke cigarettes since I was 12 and always careful to not get caught. Both parents and grandparents smoked so it was easier. They couldn't smell the smoke on my clothes.

Creams and ointments don't usually have THC. They do have CBD.
hemp oil is wonderful to rub in on my hands joints that ache from arthritis. After about ten minutes, seems to feel better.
likely the massage helped too...yes all CBD
THC is for entertainment, CBD is used medically. I'm told sometimes 20 percent or so THC added to
CDB can improve results (?).

lot of older folks in the work force. Lot of aging hippies and I say that kindly.
curious how Gez Z (currently 13-28 years old) view pot use
I'm honestly out of touch
