How to evaluate a used tiller

As others have said Kuhn is a know, reputable brand. Check gearbox oil for the amount and color (water contamination) and tines - although they can easily be replaced. If worn doesn't always mean lots of hours, could have been used in dry hard soil; my experience. But the picture looks like...

    Buying Advice on Hydraulic links

That's some good creative out-side the box thinking! You're right, often the need for 4 remotes is seldom so what you came up with fits the plan just fine! Thanks for sharing.

    Rear Blade Rear blade weight

oosik, Scary situation you just described!! I'm glad that it was only your Carhart coat that got sliced - not your chest! Stumbling happens, just don't want it to happen with a sharp heavy blade is on the topside. Glad you are okay! Greg

    Buying Advice on Hydraulic links

Torvy, If they are available as an option I'd sure get them! I have 3 on mine and haven't "yet" used the third set but if I ever need it I know it's already there and available. Any piece of equipment that uses a set of remotes I can use. Provides equipment buying options. Buy once, cry...

Adding power steering and power beyond question.

aczlan, yes you are right, but, that is only "IF" you happen to be able to find a shop that does that sort of work anymore! Nowadays it's pull out and replace - not repair - at least in my neck of the woods.
  9. Gregster613

Adding power steering and power beyond question.

Scotty, I know it looks strange but I think that it serves a purpose and the only down-side is that it makes any radiator repair/replacement more difficult/expensive. In fact probably much more expensive to replace!

    Bad Day for Pole Barn

TractorTYMe, Man I am so sorry to see that!! Nice pole shed, nice car and nasty pine causing troubles! I can't really see if the car escaped damage or not but that is a nasty mess to have to deal with. It's gonna give you some tractor time with your grapple at least.

    Nimco Loader Valves

jigs, If you're talking to me; I do have a power beyond valve installed in my main loader valve and have full hyd power to the rear end. I also have a 3 spool valve set-up for my top n tilt. I'm interested in the main loader valve because at that $106.00 price it would be good to have one on...

    SoundGuy

Same sentiments as ovrszd from me! I "always" loved reading his posts and about all the neat things he was getting done. He gave me great advice on how to "correctly" learn to operate a box blade. Although that learning is still a constant test every time I use it!!

    Nimco Loader Valves

Jiggs, Can you give a link to the ebay seller please? At that price I'd for sure get one for on the shelf! I've replaced my 273 loader valve once already and it was a "chore" to find the proper valve! Of course this was during the pandemic period which only made things much harder to...

    Logsplitter spewing oil

It did for me and I'm glad it also helped you. Since I've started paying close attention to how level it's sitting I haven't had any more of "that" problem. I've had others but they are simply that my machine is getting old (like me) and weird quirks pop up now and then, but she still works...

yes Green Acres, After I started paying close attention to the levelness at which I had it -- it quit spitting out hydo fluid. I apologize for not closing out that question originally. Went back and looked - yes I did! See post #14 , 2 posts up and I answered.

Rotary Cutter Bush Hog Gear Box Leaking

Yes Rob I realize it's a field mower and I am mowing fields with it -- I just wondered whether it was something I was doing wrong in forwards operation that was the main cause. I have learned to live with it, I just "thought" it was supposed to skid on top of the ground rather than dig into it...
  28. Gregster613

Rotary Cutter Bush Hog Gear Box Leaking

Spyderlk, Not really, my BB60 is about 1-2" wider than my rear wheels and it will gouge (rather than slide on top of) the ground even if I'm going straight. I need to be "constantly" keeping eyes on it to not have it snag a chunk of ground. However if I cut going backwards it does just fine...

Rotary Cutter Bush Hog Gear Box Leaking

Sawer Rob, Off topic some, but, how do you keep your cutter from digging in during frontward pulls? I have a Woods BB60 and unless I drive in reverse it will surely dig in on one side or the other and leave a gouge in my clay soil? I need to "constantly" watch the front edges and make...

    clean air filter

Good question Dennis, I've wondered the same thing. I put approx. 100 hrs. a year on mine and often in dusty conditions so I do take the filter out and blow with air often, but it still looks good - seems to still work okay - and is quite expensive to replace at such low hour usage that I wait...

3gunr, While that's true I'm sure that you won't find a bolt up ready kit elsewhere. If op wants it to look as stock as possible and as easy to put on, he's going to have to source a TYM kit. $$ yes, but easily assembled and looks are what come with the kit.

Electrical starting slow crank no start

Roadworthy, Just a quick question per battery load tests; if you load test a battery and the needle enters the weak range does that mean battery is getting worn out? Or just that it's weak? My guess is that it's about shot but I'm not that savvy per the load test diagnosis tests. Thanks and...

    New log splitter control valve.

I'm not seeming to follow everything here - of course I could be lost way off base - but looking at your picture in post#8, why couldn't you just flip the valve around - to the left, mount as same - and then your "flexible" hoses would be inserted into the correct ports and valve would respond...

    273 Tie-rod rubber boot replacement

Hi all, I sent out a private message (to a several years old thread I found in search) to ask how this was actually done, but the person I sent it to (Bkjohns) hasn't been on TBN for quite a while and I don't know if he's still with us anymore. I do hope he's a-okay. I had a few questions...

Good write-up and job elsievo, and you are correct - my 273 had cast housings - and was heavier than aluminum but was not that difficult to lift out once gotten to the actual lifting portion of the job. Mine only had two different sized bolts and they were obvious as to where they went also...

    TYM273 Rear Seals Replaced

I finally had to get to it, leaks got very bad and I just had to tackle this perplexing job. With much care I used this to hold...

Thanks again Hunt! Now I see how some live edge slabs could be used, and it does look rather good! I had forgotten about your shooting tower. I see now - again - how they can be overlapped and then be used, at least as siding.

Hunt, Thanks for the explanation, I didn't realize that you "wanted" the live edge left on! I know nothing about sawing logs or how someone would use slabs without clean ends either! I do love seeing it done though, and you sure made maximum use of your entire machine for that cut. Again...

Hydrostatic neutral and direction of travel

Hi ceaster, Like Smokeydog says...Thanks for coming back to explain the cause and resolution of the problem!! Often, people will state their problems but never come back with a finished solution after they get that problem fixed. I find that annoying; even if it's not my brand of tractor I...

Left SIde Steering Hose Leaking and Steering Wheel Removal Help

I'll be following your progress on this issue. My left rear started leaking quite awhile back; I didn't get to it immediately as it wasn't a bad leak - just kept a piece of cardboard on the floor where it was parked. Low and behold, in a month or so it stopped leaking!! But I'm always aware...

Left SIde Steering Hose Leaking and Steering Wheel Removal Help

I can't answer for the steering hose; I've not had to monkey with mine - yet. Thanks for posting the advice about the steering wheel itself....I didn't know that you are not to turn the wheel if a hose is off and had no idea it would mess up any kind of timing. Now I do! Good advice! I...

Left SIde Steering Hose Leaking and Steering Wheel Removal Help

kenb1023, I think your best bet for the hose is take it off and to a hydraulic shop (I use my local NAPA store) and get a new one made. Just pay attention to the fittings so you get the correct size/thread. One of my loader hoses had a reducer on one end and the two fittings were different...

    T293 Joystick Cable Connection Help

Looks like a good home-brew fix kenb1023! I hope it stays solid and continues to work for you. One would think that the threaded portion of the cable screws up into the holder portion and the nut locks it into place. But, apparently the nibs at the bottom of the round part are what hold the...

    2021 Kioti CS2220 R4 to R14 change out - Factory

I looked at those tires - nice looking set and a good price! What is the primary difference/advantage to R14's versus R4's? It looks as if only the tread pattern is different. Does that do anything with traction? I'm just trying to figure out if it's really any advantage other than looks...

    Buying Used Rotary Mower

RidgeHiker. That mower is old and as such was "solidly" built. As mentioned previously, check for oil in gearbox and if possible have owner run in on his tractor to hear for any squealing bearings; otherwise I feel that yes $500 is a reasonable price. Good luck. Greg

Rear Blade Land Pride GS2572 grader scraper woes: is this a warranty issue?

Hammick, Those pictures are horribly frightening! I just got a Land Pride GS1572 on 3-25-2021. I've used it twice now with Great results, but I haven't used the rippers yet at all. I went right out and looked at mine, the tubes are 4"x4.5" and 4"x4" width. All are 1/4" thickness. When I...

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

I too miss OP's wood adventures and hair-raising tales; and I agree with rob sawyer and John Mc. He left of his own accord, all we can do is hope for his eventual return. I am looking forwards to that event! He will have many more wild and entertaining tails to tell, I hope! Same goes for...

Can not replacing valve stem seals create bigger problems down the road.

super55, Please do and report back the results. I, for one, would like to know how to "bench test" injectors. If you would explain what and how it's done; would be much appreciated. Thanks Greg
