    Our new PT425. It’s new day…😊

Congrats on the new machine. Regarding the foot pedals being touchy: Give yourself several hours of seat time before modification. I had the same problem as you. It did not take too long to get used to the pedal's sensitivity.

    Landscape Rake for PT1850

I converted one a number of years ago. Mine has caster wheels. As has been stated, it does not push very well but is good with back dragging. I think it would work well for you.

    Driveway

I have a power rake. Use it more for soil prep but I think it would work well for your driveway. The caster wheels make it level easier and faster, plus driving forward instead of back dragging. Also have a tiller. It is a poor choice for grading.

    Your advice ?

Just reskimmed your posts. A couple more tidbits. Most ponds are dug to two to two and one half feet deep. Fish overwinter just fine in ponds this deep with a bit of water circulation. Rocking in a pond is hot, heavy work. I paint my side boards and glue/staple plywood strips to the ends...

    Your advice ?

Been running my own landscaping business for the past 25 years. My advice on some of the questions you have asked. Don't bother with the stump grinder for the pt. Works better as a trencher than a stump grinder. Get a copy of The Pond Builder's Bible and Succeeding and Prospering with Water...

    Generic wheel motors

Heard back from the hydraulic shop. All the pressures tested good. As best we can tell, the older wheel motors failures were standard wear on the motor seals. As I said in earlier posts when I replaced the pump I also changed all the hydraulic oil and flushed the lines. I found metal in the...

    Generic wheel motors

Thank you for walking me thru the oil flow path. Clearest explanation I have heard. Between rebuilds and new wheel motors I am somewhere over 12 wheel motor replacements. All 4 wheel motors on this machine have been replaced at least once. The front right gives out the most. Back right...

    Using a tree spade

If you do decide to fit an after market tree spade to a Power Trac, I can provide the following information based off 25 years experience landscaping and a landscape horticulture degree. Using a PT 425 with forks, I cannot install a 4" B&B tree. 3" to 3 1/2" B&B trees are do-able but max out...

    Using a tree spade

A nursery I buy from used to (maybe still does?) dig their trees with a Bobcat 743. Those machines are rather light in the front end. I too would expect a spade to just lift the machine up, but it seemed to work just fine for them.

    Generic wheel motors

On this machine I am currently running the older/smaller wheel motors (White CE 400230W3122AAAAA ) Power Trac has upgraded to a bigger wheel motor. If I have to order five wheel motors to get a bulk discount, may as well replace them all. Does anyone know the model number for the newer/larger...

    Generic wheel motors

If it was slag, it was from when it was manufactured. Remaining welding splatter inside the tank is why I lean this way. I am the original owner of this machine. If my assessment is correct, it is pretty impressive the original pump made it ~ 2800 Hrs. Now have a magnet on the filter to try...

    Generic wheel motors

As a general rule, I agree with you. This machine may be the exception. The cost benefit changes when you buy enough wheel motors. No one can figure out why this particular machine loves blowing out wheel motors. I have learned to live with it. Shop around for the best price. Keep a spare...

    Generic wheel motors

Does anyone have experience using generic versions of the white ce400 wheel motors used on the smaller PTs? Anyone ever mix name brand wheel motors with generic versions on the same machine and if so, did it cause any problems? I ask because I have had zero luck with rebuilds over the years...

Is it time to consider electric?

In this scenario, you are specifically talking about the consistency of the power source (i.e. battery) correct?

Is it time to consider electric?

Of course this mower will go into freewheel if it runs out of power. Just look at all the golfers that drown every year because their golf cart runs out of juice on top of the hill above the water hazard. What about the untold numbers of injured warehouse workers who have gone over the edge...

Is it time to consider electric?

Mandates are the root cause of this whole discussion. Consumers have proven more than eager to shell out an extra 20k for mandated emissions equipment as long as they get some shiny new paint, the latest infotainment system and bluetooth gadgetry. If you keep buying them, they will keep...

    Using a tree spade

A 2" tree is typically dug with a minimum 28" wide root ball. Approximate weight 500-600 lbs. 30-32" wide root ball gives increased transplant success for a 2" tree. Approximate weight 700-850 lbs. Add the weight of the spade and distance from the machine and the smaller PTs will probably...

Is it time to consider electric?

Power Trac's parent company Hydra power already makes an electric battery powered loader for coal mines. I know a plumber who is using electric excavators. He loves them. Does alot of indoor work. Says one unexpected advantage is the ability to talk to the guy in the trench instead of yelling...

Useful attachments adapted to PT ?

The older PTs came with a 3 point top link like this : Top Link 13 It replaces the round bar link that connects the top of the attachment plate to the tilt dump swivel point on the loader arm. The screws allow you to shorten the length of the rod which will bring the back of the mower down...

Useful attachments adapted to PT ?

I prefer more than 2 tines on a log grapple. Smaller stuff tends to twist more in the 2 tine grapples and slips out. I added a tine to mine to make it a 3 tine. With a mechanical grapple I often grabbed around the log instead of trying to dig the points into the log. The extra tines give a...

    PT 425 - repower options (Kohler 25hp)

Glad you found the problem. With the benefit of hindsight, were there any warning signs prior to failure (strange noise, smoke, power loss etc.) or did it give out without warning? FWIW, my brother has advised me to only run the Kohler brand engine oil in Kohler engines. The place he works...

    PT 425 - repower options (Kohler 25hp)

I have done a couple of engine swaps on PTs. It is pretty easy. Power trac can set you up with any parts you may need to adapt a new engine. Word of warning when installing the 90 degree oil drain elbow: do not overtighten or you will crack the block. The following Kohler engine spec numbers...

    Mail order PT attachments

Freight costs is often a deal breaker for ordering additional attachments from power trac. It turns out that a number of PT attachments are mailable by usps or ups. I recently got a dirt bucket for a pt425 delivered by the postman. The shipping method is determined by weight. Under 150 lbs =...

pt1430 wont go forward or backward basically stuck in front yard

Older Power Tracs have a drive cable from the foot pedal back to the hydraulic pump. My 1430 loves to break the 1/4" bolt that attaches the cable to the pump. If yours has a drive cable, you are looking for a lever on the right side (as you are sitting on the machine) of the pump under the...

425 - model year changes and price check

I have measured mine in a similar manner. My 425 was built in 2004. My preferred wall block weigh 82 lbs each. To move block around the jobsite I typically break them down into pallets of 9. Six block tight to the QA plate and 3 block further out. 738 lbs plus the weight of the pallet and...

425 - model year changes and price check

A 425 is rated for 800lbs, but will lift 1000lbs. At least mine will. For a 1300lb machine, that is an exeptional lift capacity to weight ratio. I have set boulders in retaining walls with this machine that were most likely pushing 1200lbs. The "PT Pucker" allows you to lift more than the...

Late Fathers PT-422: What should I do with it?

New machines have Kohler engines. Power trac sells the parts to swap a 25 hp Robin to a 25 hp Kohler, so they probably have kits for the 22 hp machines too. They are pretty easy to swap out. It is a night and day difference between the Robin and the Kohler. The 25 hp Robin is no longer made...

    Older better than newer?

I own a 2001 PT2422 that has been converted to a 2425 and a newer 2015 PT2425. Both machines were bought used. The 2001 was pretty beat when I got it. The 2015 is basically new. A word of warning. Your backhoe will not fit the newer machines. The bottom side of the attachment plate is the...

First issue with 1430, weak drive power.

you might try bleeding the hydraulic system just to make sure there air didn't somehow get into the system. It could also be ice in the hydraulic lines. I am not familiar with the newer 1430's. Does it have a hydroback with a cable attached to the foot pedals or does it have a valve at the...

Late Fathers PT-422: What should I do with it?

Mine is among the opinions that vary. Half the price of new (currently $ 5,800 for the machine plus money for the attachments) is a starting point, but is a bit overly optimistic. I have purchased 3 used Power Tracs, two within the past year. I paid well under 1/2 of new price. Lack of brand...

Late Fathers PT-422: What should I do with it?

If you decided to tow it out of the barn, call Power Trac first and have them help you locate the tow valve. If you try to tow one of these machines without opening the tow valve, you will ruin the hydraulic pump.
  42. S

Late Fathers PT-422: What should I do with it?

The robin engines hate cold weather. Below 40 degrees they are almost impossible to start. If the machine is cold, this might be your issue. I may be interested if you decide to sell it.

    PT1430 vs PT2430 NEED Advice

good advice above about the slope capabilities vs lift height above. I have a 425 and a 1430. I had the same problem as you with a pile of 425 attachments. I cut down the attachment plate on the 1430 to accept the 425 attachments and welded the smaller attachment plates to the 1430...

    Chaining down a Power Trac

I use four ratchet straps to tie down my machines. Two front and two back. Front straps go around the cross supports of the loader arm. Back straps go to the hitch pin and/or the drain holes on the bottom of the tub. I personally would not run chains over any of the wheel motor mounts. I...

    Does anyone use aw32

From what I have seen and from conversations with Power Trac, the front right wheel motor is the "first" (for lack of a better term) in the hydraulic circuit so it takes the most abuse in a pressure spike. Back right is "second", back left is "third" and front right is "fourth". On my...

    Does anyone use aw32

I have been running generic Napa Hytrans Ultra in my machines for a few years now. I do not notice any difference in operation or performance. As I think about it while typing this, I don't think I have replaced a wheel motor on my 425 since I switched it over. I used to blow the seals on...

    2xxx series users??

I have a 425, 2425 and a 1430. The bulk of my experience (16 years full time landscaping and snow removal) is on the 425. I only have 20 or so hours on the 2425, but have a fair idea of the pros and cons of it versus the 425. 2425 has better cutting edge visibility from the seat and is, of...

    Add A Grapple?

I would buy the root grapple. As others have stated adding a grapple to a PT bucket would not be nearly as useful. The sides of the bucket make it difficult to grab awkward, oversized objects. The most common use of solid bottomed grapple buckets is moving scrap steel or construction debris...

    pt 425 engine alternatives

    pt 425 engine alternatives

I have a 2005 pt 425 with the Robin Subaru engine that will be getting a hydraulic pump rebuild soon. I would really like to change the Robin engine out for a more dependable/easier to start engine, such as a Honda or Kohler, at the same time. I know Power Trac used to use Kohler engines in...
