    Century 2535 - need a new head

That's a big assumption. I doubt that a Yanmar and a completely different engine like say a Cummins designed Kukje have the identical interface between the engine and transmission. It's like expecting a Ford engine to bolt up to a Chevy transmission. However a Yanmar and a Kukje-made copy of...

    Wheel spacers

I had my Branson dealer change the wheels and tires for slightly smaller diameter ones that come on a model with 2hp less, and put spacers on the rears. All this was before delivery so I can't say what the improvement in stability was. But it's very stable on side hills compared to my last tractor.

    Hydraulic Flow Control Advice Needed

This is what I did on my backhoe's boom cylinder which was way too jerky, probably due to inexpensive valves. I put a one way adjustable valve on both ends, restricting the flow out. I wanted separate adjustments for each end because the rod end needs less fluid to move the same distance, and...

    3/8 or .325 chainsaw chain?

.325 is better for cutting brush and small (a few inches) trees. It's less grabby than either 3/8 or 3/8LP. It suits the 025 well- that's what's on mine. Some people who are milling with huge saws run 3/8LP (pico) which is thinner than .325. It cuts faster due to the narrow kerf.

Quick easy to make jig to hold chainsaw in a bench vise.

I keep a couple pieces of 1" aluminum angle on the bench that are cut to the vice jaw width. But the wood blocks would be better for chainsaws. I have a chain vice that chucks into my bench vice and works with longer chains. With smaller bars and often larger ones I just leave the saw on the...

Don't do that. It could do more damage. If the piston stops there is something keeping it from moving. Debris from a broken bearing, a piece of broken piston ring, piston ring hanging up in a port, etc. I'm assuming the spark plug has been removed so it's not running up against compression...

    Burn piles

Most counties in California have an official announced burn season. You need to notify the local fire station in case someone calls it in, so they don't roll to your place. If permits are required they are easy to get, usually on line. The counties around the SF and LA areas are under more...

    3/8 or .325 chainsaw chain?

.325 has more teeth per inch and is slightly narrower. It's normally used on 45-55cc saws. 60cc saws usually use 3/8. If you switch from 3/8 to .325 you'll need a new sprocket in addition to a new chain and bar. They all have to match. Many Huskies come with .58 wide drivers on the chain...

Is modern tractor repair like modern car repair and super complicated requiring a dealer?

I've been programming for 45 years, professionally for 40. While source code for my car's ECU would be interesting, I know it would take a ton of work to make use of it and only a few people would be able to do so. I'd rather have good documentation. I have manufacturer-specific OBD2 readers...

Is modern tractor repair like modern car repair and super complicated requiring a dealer?

Emissions legislation requires that manufacturers support a standard protocol and a common set of fault codes. This why you can go to an AutoZone and get them to read the codes from the OBD2 port or buy a code reader and do it yourself. It's been incredibly useful to me as a home mechanic...

Yea you can't hone the plated cylinder linings. But they are hard and durable and sometimes you can clean the aluminum off them and they're fine. What have you done to your Branson today?

Pioneer is a company that makes couplers. I think you want ISO 5675 couplers, 1/2". Around here they are called "ag" couplers but that can be misleading. I bet real 300hp ag tractors use something else. Pioneer 8010 male couplers should do (the tractor has female couplers). My local TSC has...

Drain or Pump out the old oil?

I think the amount of solids that are removed with draining vs suction are going to depend on individual engine details like the exact shape of the oil pan at the drain plug (i.e. some plugs are on the side of the pan or the plug hole has a raised lip on the inside) and for suction, how well the...

That's the relief valve. You turned the pressure down. Since you're dead heading all the time, the lower relief pressure means the pump is doing less work. While that's slightly better, it did not correct the actual problem. It's still plumbed wrong and that is likely causing your other...

Pros and cons of using an over run clutch/coupler on pto??

3/8 is fine. If it was me I'd put the restrictor in the 3/8 hose just to reduce the weight and bulk of the stack of adaptors and fittings. Restricting the top link… advice?

1/2" hose and fittings are larger than you need for a hydraulic top link. 1/4" would be fine. If yours has reducers after the quick connects to get the standard 1/2" ag connector down to a more reasonable size hose, I'd put the restrictor in the smaller diameter part after the reducers.

I tried a couple scanners on my 2017's OBD port and none could read it. Does yours have regen? I'm guessing not given the description. Then you probably have the same system I have. My shop manual says if the DPF light is Continuous: DPF clogged or EGT too high, stop engine. Blinking every .5...

    Chipper / shredder

The larger diameter throat isn't just about stem diameter. It lets you chip branches and brush with less trimming. But yea, under $1k is going to be tough. The self powered home store chippers are pretty much useless if you're on a rural parcel.

    Pothole advice

Yep. Cold patch works well if there is a good firm base. A heavy flat tamper is useful to compact it. Also it helps to do it in the summer when it's hot as it flows and sticks together a lot better. Or you can put a big rock there that the drivers will have to go around.

    Do you plant trees?

There was some form of firewood cutting allowed in every national forest I worked in except the wilderness areas. It varies from district to district and even within districts. You used to have to go ask but now it's all on web sites. Usually personal use only but when there's a limit it's often...

    Hydraulic Top Link?

What you need is the correct category for your hitch (cat 1 or 2) and retracted and extended lengths in the right range. You can select a valve with pilot operated check valves or one without. If you want it to be able to float, get without. If your valves leak, then the check valve will keep...

Smoke, rough running and no power above an idle

Diesels always run very lean, especially at idle or low power output. And when they run rich the smoke is black. You see that at tractor pulls. If a clogged air filter was the problem, then the symptoms would have been consistent, not intermittent. Your issue sounds more like a fuel problem...

Rake grapple able to pull brush out of the ground?

I can pull out brush if I can grab the top part of the plant hard enough. The brush has to be pretty large diameter and the trunk grow somewhat horizontal for that to work. That does not happen often enough to be worth doing. If it's only an inch or two and straight, it's difficult to grab hard...

    Do you plant trees?

If you clear cut a big area, natural regeneration may not get you the forest you want. In a lot of areas out west you will get brush first. Left alone for a century or two, natural succession will turn it into forest but most people can't wait that long. The front part of my property was...
