New owner Kioti CK 2610 HST

Don't sound good, but make sure it's not just something rattling....rops, smv sign bracket, lots of stuff rattles on my Bobcat near back end, and rattles change with changes to what operator is doing with machine. My ct2025 hydrostatic, essentially a Kioti, has clutch pedal. Used to select...

L2501 forestry winch too small to be useful? Other options?

I'm thinning a young plantation, stems being cut are around 10 inches at the base and are being left about 20-25 ft in length, so winching out of the stand involves numerous opportunities to damage the remaining trees. To prevent, I cut the bottoms off some 5-gal plastic buckets and slit them...

    Should i get a tractor?

PTO shaft, tractor with FEL may load faster than skid steer, not sure what else. Sounds like you've got a pretty nice machine there.

    Name that tree

...and where in the world this is. I was more inclined towards tulip tree, but that's not it. Must be some oak after all, but again, some geographic info always helps. Oaks are "promiscuous", related species can hybridize, so that can add uncertainty.

L2501 forestry winch too small to be useful? Other options?

As Gordon says, it's about the stability of the machine the winch is attached to. I've got the smallest offering by Norse (Igland-same thing), on my 25 hp tractor and I'm reasonably certain it could do all you mention. I logged right around 200 stems from a larch plantation I'm thinning this...

    Keep politics out of it.

To me, the issue is simple-I don't come to a forum called tractorbynet to discuss politics. There are all kinds of rabbit holes folks can waste their time in, screaming at each other in their pajamas. This forum, I think, is best when it sticks to topics relating to tractors, attachments...

    Engine block heater

On my bobcat, I screwed a screw into frost plug, then pried on that to get plug out. We used Permatex, forget the number, to seal unit in block, and some kind of pipe dope for actual threaded in insert. Mine loosened up-the threaded insert, not the sleeve in the block-and was in a difficult...

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

Hey Gordon, yeah, right, how long we got? A little more snow here tonight thru Monday morn, but can hit 40 by mid next week. Wish I didn't have to carry a shovel with me to clear hard, frozen/thawed/refrozen/rinse and repeat snow away from all the trunks of the small larch trees I'm clearing...

After years of hand filing, went and bought myself an Oregon chain grinder

Ever see a tractor crack in half?

I've been wondering for a while whether or not the huge popularity of these grapples is not going to lead to lots of shot front axle seals, bearings, premature wear to loader arms, etc.... Seems some want to overdo it with these things, plus many versions are in and of themselves quite weighty...

How do you know Spring is just around the corner, or here already?

My thoughts exactly Jstpssing....winter until April is best. We've had some freak early warmups in a few past years.... doesn't help anything. Not to mention, I've still got about a hundred and a half stems to drop in my plantation thinning...and that's winter work.

    What is the Correct RPM?

Bump;. On my 25 horse BobKioti, I've got a forestry skidding winch on the back which runs off pto. My understanding is that 540 revs is max that implement wants to see, not what it needs. It's also my understanding that things get gnarly in a hurry when one goes much above idle when skidding...

lopping young trees, Remedy or Tordon?

I can believe that, that Tordon used in cut-stump app would pose minimal risk for collateral damage. I'm glad you brought up that sprinkling the stuff on the ground is bad business.👍

lopping young trees, Remedy or Tordon?

If you've got beech, and you don't want to damage the larger trees just off the trail, then yes do select an active ingredient with lower translocatability-if that's a word-and BTW, I don't know which one it is. Beech tree roots are definitely connected together. Oh, and you have my permission...

lopping young trees, Remedy or Tordon?

You could use that same sprayer. I keep separate sprayers:. One for glyph, triclo, etc, one for insecticides, fungicides, plant protectants, and one for broadleaf herbicide, used on turf areas. That way, no unfortunate results from cross contamination.

Logging winch and why I bought Igland - Norse 4501

Logging winch and why I bought Igland - Norse 4501

Hi MapleLeafFarmer. Are you talking lubing the cable, or the drive chain? As far as the drive chain, I saw one reference to it needing to be done like a motorcycle chain, soaked in oil and hung up to dry. I'd have difficulty doing that on any kind of regular basis. That's the main one I'm...

Logging winch and why I bought Igland - Norse 4501

As long as I'm here....watched a video of some Euro loggers using larger tractor and winch. They were working in some very nice spruce. Logging winch and why I bought Igland - Norse 4501

I've got the smaller Norse 250 on my 25-horse Bobcat, and am very happy to have gone with this make and model. Easily pulls anything I've needed it to so far. Granted, I'm thinning a plantation and skidded material is small diameter, but I'm bunching several at a time thru lots of slash and...

lopping young trees, Remedy or Tordon?

The 2-4D ain't no thang. Not more toxic than the triclo contingent, less so than Tordon. Don't overthink it-you're using tiny amounts of actual solution, if doing cut-stump treatment (which you should) as jyoutz points out. Couple drops of blue dye can work wonders in helping one keep track...

I reckon all things considered, we'll just disconnect the battery, simple matter that it is. FWIW, this particular job will consist of tacking the thin connector strap on u-bolts to top surface of Norse 250 skidding winch safety cage. I like the idea of using grounding clamp to hold this, or...

My Bobcat ct2025 might be similar sized machine. I can fit under my nominally seven foot overhead. Sometimes I have to push the door itself up a bit if it has sagged. Looking at same issue also in that Norse winch will soon live on rear of my tractor. I'm pretty sure🙃 that'll fit too.

Suggestions for light weight pallet forks

I got the smallest, lightest, 42-inchers that were adjustable and had a bit of headache rack, albeit for my larger bobcat 2025. Mine are cid and I'd guess roughly equivalent to the Titan product. You're right to not want to " over-fork" your tractor, but I think you'll be disappointed if you...

Anyone know of better grill guard protection for an L Series?

Thanks again sir. Actually, I've got a Bobcat 2025. Just looked, on mine, it does narrow slightly towards the bottom, then narrows a bit more but by this section, it's solid plate that is in turn bolting flat onto bullnose of frame, so no need to go down that far. Looks like my final piece...

Hey Smoke, maybe my post just above is misleading-I was trying to express gladness that I can get the stuff cut to fit the shape of existing pipe guard at local metal vendor. That cutting was the part I was unsure about. This is not a rectangle, it slims down towards bottom. Maybe I'm wrong...

Need with help with eroding stream in field

Hi adlertom. Didn't see this when you originally posted, but thought I'd add my comments. I've been involved in projects like you're involved in and the realization you've made, that spraying immediately following mulching is not really feasible, and that followup spot-spraying is the answer...

Anyone know of better grill guard protection for an L Series?

Yup. Have to measure and engineer this thing yet. Found a good source for custom metal sizes, for when the boneyard is lacking. I'd use scraps too if they were available.
  57. W

Anyone know of better grill guard protection for an L Series?

After reviewing many sources, think I'll skip the small-hole, 8-gauge stuff. Likely stiff enough, but now believe it better to go with perhaps 1-inch openings, but in a heavier gauge, maybe 8 or 9, see what's available. Better headlight/air penetration methinks.
  58. W

Anyone know of better grill guard protection for an L Series?

Looks good. Yeah, the smaller hole stuff seemed pretty tough.
  59. W

Anyone know of better grill guard protection for an L Series?

Sorry for old thread, searching got frustrating: What gauge expanded metal? Gonna weld one of these up soon. Looked at stores today and everything was 13 gauge. That seemed light with 3/4 inch diamond holes, but quite rigid at half-inch holes. What's good for this? Thanks

    Retirement thoughts Past Present Future

I'd base retirement decisions on many factors. A given state's tax policy would be one, but far from top of list. I don't want to leave all my projects, land, tree farm, etc. just because I finally hung up my work hat. All that matters to me is where I already am.

What kind of oil do they make synthetic oil from?😄. Not being snide...what does it actually mean for a motor oil to be labeled synthetic, given that in this day, that term nearly always refers to a petrochemically derived material? I could check with Dr. Google but nah, this is more fun.

Heh, Hud-Son dealer in state informs there are basically no Uniforest winches available in North America at this time.

Skidding winch sizing? and Pat's Easy Change

Hi John. Just recently learned of the existence of the Uniforest 30M. That's the size class I want to end up with. Gives me another option as the Farmi product is unavailable at present it seems.

    Krpan forestry winch

Thanks north and Eric. I'm firmly in the (member here) Gordon Gould camp regarding winch sizing-that winch capacity ratings actually refer to the unit's clutch strength, and that it is the tractor's pto that actually determines "winching power", and that furthermore, there are advantages to...

    Krpan forestry winch

Yo 47, another familiar name! Yeah these things are just not common around here like I'm led to believe is the case in New England and eastern Canada. As far as I can tell, the lone dealer of any make here in this state has closed. Thanks for the Farmi info. Probably stuck with buying...

Skidding winch sizing? and Pat's Easy Change

Hello FF friends and all. I am also shopping winches, in my case, scaled down to something for my Bobcat CT2025 HST with beet juice in the rears and FL7. I like all makes I've looked at but would prefer to end up with Farmi's smallest unit, now dubbed W30R I believe. At any rate, these appear...

    Krpan forestry winch

Looking at these. Wondering if 3.5 too big for my Bobcat CT2025. Best price I've found so far. I'd really like the Farmi W30R as it scales better with my tractor, but have learned those will be unobtainium until late summer. Any thoughts?

    Snow CT2025 Engine Heater needed?

I see part number 7388933, engine block heater, is more like 90 bucks or so, not hundred and a half. Anybody know-any issues with item not staying in tightly or any such?

Min tractor size for repairing long gravel driveway with potholes?

I spread a lot of gravel with my 25-horse Bobcat with FEL. Fun! Mine has auto-float on that loader, which is intended to be used in reverse. It works great but I did have to learn how to maximize its capabilities. Basically, wherever the bucket sets down, a little divot will be formed. To...

    Snow CT2025 Engine Heater needed?

I plan on getting the block heater by this winter. Mine does start rough in cold weather-lots of smoke-but it does start. In any other conditions, no issues. I think the block heater will be money well spent. Maybe around a hundred and a half $$.

Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

A ruby-throated seems to think my Bobcat ct2025 HST is a big orange and white flower. Twice now in past couple weeks, I'll be down working near 3-pt. or greasing something underneath and I'll hear the little guy in close proximity. Have only seen this (or these) hummingbird(s) when I have the...

    Hydraulic oil for ct2000 series

I use "Farm-Rated" brand from Fleet Farm. You likely don't have fleet Farm stores where you are, but perhaps something similar?

    New member, new tractor (CT2025)

Heh, new member also here, and relatively new owner of this same machine, ct2025 HST. I got the FEL, beet juice in the rears, and delivery 60 miles from dealer, for roughly $4500 less than an equivalent orange unit I was looking at, back in summer of 2019. Very happy with tractor. I do light...
