1/2 ton pickup opinions???

Im looking at an 07 tow rate chart right now. A superDuty F250 Van can tow 7300, A similarly equiped F250 SuperDuty pickup can tow 10100. Are you telling me that a Van weighs nearly a ton and a half (2800lbs) more than a pickup? Ive been studying this chart and we can go round and round about it. The numbers are not consistant with vehicles weight, brakes, length, or anything else that would influence how safely that vehicle can tow.

notice the 6.0 version is only 500lbs less than a 6.0 version in a truck
the chart didnt cut and paste quite right but you get the point. notice how much the weight changes from one ratio to another, this comes into play with what you were talking about concerning manual transmissions. 95% of the customers that buy a 5 speed pickup dont buy them for towing reasons. with the moden transmissions that are out the difference in rpm's at highway speeds is maybe 200 rpms at the most. My wifes new denali has a 6 speed auto trans that you can shift up and down if you so desire.The denali gets better mpg than my 07 1/2 ton v-max with DOD, only thing i can figure is its the extra speeds in the trans.

What's the problem with chevy/gmc?

I use my trucks commercially and switched from Ford to GMC this time around.

GM has the best powertrains in the business, period. Powertrains are the heart of every vehicle be it a car or a truck. The only exception might be a 5.9L Cummins, but you're buying a 1/2 ton, so you can't get one.

Ford & Dodge transmissions leave a lot to be desired. I've paid the repair bills so I can speak from experience.
