No 3 point and 1000 rpm pto is a good reason not to get the 5020. Along with what cowboydoc recommended, I would look at the 4230 and 4240 which are similar to the 4430 and 4440, but around 25 fewer horses (no turbo). They also have 540/1000 rpm pto. I would get the quad range.

There are a couple IH cab tractors in Ohio on Ebay right now. The 1066 is being sold by a guy I have dealt with before and will be up front and honest with you about the tractor. He is a great guy to deal with. The 1086 I do not know the seller but there is plenty of time left if you are interested.

I know a lot of people are scared to buy tractors on Ebay but if they are somewhat close to you then check them out as not everyone on Ebay is a crook and there are some great deals with regards to tractors and equipment on Ebay.

eBay: International 1086 Tractor International IH Farmall (item 330121636718 end time May-25-07 13:18:00 PDT)

eBay: International #1066 With Factory Cab Runs Great LOOK!!! (item 300111268626 end time May-20-07 18:18:00 PDT)

Just noticed the 1066 doesn't have AC but it is a nice looking tractor still.

Seller on the 1086 is very much an honest and reliable person.

I would love to add that 1086 to my barn but having just bought the neighbors farm money is a tad bit tight right now:(

The 66 and 86 series Internationals usually sell cheap on Ebay.

66 and 86 series tractors sell for pennies on the dollar here compared to "green" of comparable size.

86 series sells cheaper than 66 series here too. That tends to boggle my mind. The only explaination I can get from anyone is the bad karma left when IH shut down the Louisville foundry, about the time the 86 series was the newest IH in the dealers showroom. The Lou. Ky plant was one of the worst as far as union troubles leading up to the demise of the old IH. But then again, Louisville has alway had a bad rep with union/company relations. GE has a big plant here that's slowly sneaking down Mexico way. Colgate Palmolive has a plant in Jeffersonville Indiana (right across the Ohio River from Louisville) It closes the doors for good in less than a year.

All that doesn't mean beans to me when I go tractor shopping though.

I WANT A 1066!

Those 1066's are in great demand here in the NC piedmont too. IMHO probably the best older HP for the money on the market.

I emailed the seller of the 1066, have not heard back, but looks like it might have already been sold. That would have been perfect if in good condition. Will post follow-up when I learn more.

Have spoken with seller of 1086, waiting to hear back from someone with more info though. Starting bit is $12,500. Is that high? 4500 hrs, 1979...that seems high, am I wrong?

Looking on Used Tractors at TractorHouse.com: John Deere Tractors, used farm tractors and farm equipment, Case IH, New Holland, Agco, Caterpillar., that seems to be in range, most there are $14,000 and up.

The reason of the preference in the older model is it is bare bones! The 86 series used a differnent shift that some didn't like as well as the old model. The cab on the 86 series offered air which was a good improvement as well as the noise level. Any with a turbo are quieter then the non-turbo models with or without a muffler.
