Hello everyone,

I'm spec'ing out a new Kioti CX2510 with loader and backhoe. Does anyone have thoughts about running an 18" bucket on this backhoe? I want to get the 9" bucket for trenching and it doesn't seem a big enough of a difference to get the 12" bucket so I was thinking the 9" and the 18".

Here are the specs:
9" - 3 teeth, .87 cu/ft heaped, 46 pounds
16" - 3 teeth, 1.76 cu/ft heaped, 64 pounds
18" - 4 teeth, 2.02 cu/ft heaped, 70 pounds

BH specs:
shipping weight (no bucket) - 1,036 pounds
bucket digging force - 2,817 pounds
dipper stick digging force - 1,748 pounds

I have a 10" bucket I never use due to clay soil sticking in it and not dropping out.

I would go with 12" and 18" given your choices. I use my 16" all the time, on a BL4690 Kubota backhoe, which sounds about the same size as what you are considering.

I have a Woods bh75. It came with a 12" bucket installed and I bought a 24" to have in case I wanted it in the future. It's been several years now and I've never swapped buckets for a project. My suggestion is to get the 12" only and save the cash.

Well, I will counter, if you are only going to go with ONE bucket, from your choices get the 18". First time you have to lay pipe in a 3 foot deep trench or deeper (within reason) you will thank me...IF you need to stand in the trench, a 12 inch wide trench will not be much fun...

If you need to move dirt for whatever reason, a large bucket is better...and so on...

18" bucket would be nice for moving stuff but idk about putting it on a small tractor. Depends a lot on what you're digging in.

I don’t see spending many thousands on a tractor with backhoe then losing considerable functionality by saving a few hundred on buckets. I have 6, 12, and 24 inch buckets for the B21 and switch among them often.

I have a 12” bucket on my mini x that spends more time clogged up than it does digging. A 9” would have to be digging sand to be any use. The 18” on my other machine is a better bucket. I use my 24” for most digging.

As much as my 12" plugs/clogs up I wouldn't consider a 9".

Hmm....never thought about the bucket getting plugged or working in a 9 inch trench. Our freeze line is 18 inches so I shouldn't have to go down much farther than arms length.

But it sounds like the BH should be able to easily handle the 18" bucket which was my initial concern. Kioti does sell a 24" and 36" muck bucket although I can't imagine using the latter on this size of a BH.

12 and 24 here. We have no clay and not a much rain so its not an issue. 12 for trenching 24 for everything else.

I would expect it to be fine. I like have different buckets for different tasks. On my Mini I have 12,24 and 36". 12 for digging out trees, small trenches. 24" for normal digging and wider trenches and the 36" smooth (no teeth) for doing ditches, clean out and smoothing banks. I find I change buckets all the time and make the machine much more useful. If they offer a quick attach for the buckets it will make changing them a minute long process.

I have a 24" bucket on my backhoe, and the 11' hoe handles it easily.
I think I would like have an 18" bucket, but I am too cheap to buy a second bucket only 6" smaller.
To put things into perspective, I am just happy to have my backhoe.

I have about the same size tractor I believe and have a 18” bucket.
The biggest problem is always stacking the dirt far enough away. It will dig a big hole fast. But not a lot of reach to stock pile the dirt very far. Im getting good at pushing the dirt as I dump the next bucket when there’s room. How ever that puts it out of reach for backfill with out repositioning.

That was one of the bigger shortcomings of my M59. My KX040 excavator is way better in that aspect. Although the boom is only about a foot bigger it’s WAY better at getting dirt out of the way. This is my buddies trackhoe that probably has 5’ more reach than mine.View attachment 688899View attachment 688900

Same here. I’ve been having trouble since the changes last week. I just tried again and they seem to have worked.
