Normally I'm a big fan of big snowfalls. This time not so much.

My wife and I went to the airport this morning at zero dark 30 to take our first real vacation in years and our flight was cancelled due to the storm on the east coast. We were going to the Dominican Republic but our flight was routed through Newark. Now we're losing 3 of our 7 days at the resort because we can't get out until Tuesday. I half expected this to happen when I saw the weather forecast, but I checked the flight info before we left and it showed we were good as we would be just ahead of the storm. I'm Ok with it except for the money we're losing on our reservations. The whole act of God, it's not our fault thing.

Ok, I'm done complaining about spilled milk.

Just measured 19" on back porch. Supposed to snow hard for a couple more hours before quitting some time after dark.

I'm not a fan of the incremental snow removal tactic. That's why I have a tractor, to avoid going out during the blizzard and having enough capability to clear out a few feet of snow. Admittedly, my BX will "high center" in snow this deep, so I guess if I didn't have the L-3700 I would probably be forced to incrementally remove the snow. In any case, I am going to give the walk behind snowblower a chance before going with the L-3700. We shall see.

Just finished an incremental plowing. The worst part was I couldn't see well, snow kept sticking to my glasses. Good news is the 7.5' plow connected to the bucket worked well in the 18" of snow we got so far.

I probably should have plowed last night when the snow was powdery, as the overnight sleet/rain/snow mix really consolidated and settled the snow. So it was more of a chore this morning, and traction was poor. But I got down skimming gravel with a few extra passes, so it turned out OK.

Now we're getting the back end of the storm as it pulls in moisture from the Atlantic and wraps it down into southeast VA. Probably at least another 4-6" coming, I am guessing. It's windy as heck, and the west side of our home is frosted with wind-driven snow. I'll go plow again once this second part of the storm dies down, probably by tomorrow morning.

We are forecasted for 12-16". I plow with the quad so it's best to do it incrementally. I can also let it finish and then use the 26" cut snowblower do it in one fell swoop.

Update: at 2pm I went out and we had 9". SO I fired up the snowblower, had to adjust the auger belt and then blew the steep part of the driveway. Finish up tomorrow.

we went from not suppose to be getting anything to 12 on the ground and another 6 on the way.......liars......haha......been out and made one pass already in blizzard conditions....couldn't see where I was going....really debated about waiting but I have a very long drive and if it gets too deep then I have to herringbone the whole thing which is a royal pain and triples the time it takes to do it........it's days like this I wish I had a cab for the tractor.........Jack
