Well I appreciate your honesty and advice Foggy, I wasn't getting my hopes up too much but from all the others I've been looking at recently these were by far the better condition ones. They both cost me 475.00 (225/mold-250/disc). The wife threw a nut last nite. Probably cause they were larger than her Mothers Day gift..... I am at the office most of the day today, so I can take better pics if need be.... I plan on using them as is first, and slowly throwing a good coat of OEM red paint on them and go from there. Not looking to do a show piece type restore....

Thanks:thumbsup:

Opinions from the web are worth what you pay for 'em. Maybe a good clean-up and a sand-blast would make things look allot better (but, I'm not sure ???). Your rolling landslide (furrow wheel) likely got bent when somebody loaded / unloaded it wrong.

Maybe an expert will come along and tell you more. FWJ and Ken Sweet know these plows pretty well.

I was assuming the same thing about the wheel. But that is an easy fix. I did my Howard rotovator that had huge dents and even tears in the metal. I re-welded and pounded out everything to near perfect condition. Enuff that you cannot tell even with close inspection. It was my first clean up on a farm implement. Now I unfortunately got the bug and really enjoy working on these and the F-I-L's 8N. Its alot easier and actually relaxing than what I normally do for work. Our uncle Mel has a 2 part primer that he is trying out on a restoration that he's doing on the tires of a Waterloo and a model D. Its supposed to fill in all the deep pitting done on metal. I really don't think I need it or will go that far but if he has some left over why not. I'll make it a summer project. I am wondering how hard it will be to get the scraper for the front disc. If you see in post 6 pic 3 it and the bracket broke off at some time. I figure I'll get 8N or try and match the dearborn red ( if not the same) from TSC of somewhere.

Yep....you can fix all kinds of stuff. And it's likely a good hobby and I can see it being fun for many folks that like to restore these old pieces. I'm just too practical....and for me I gotta see a reasonable "payback" when I tackle a project such as your talking here (and its often cheaper to start with the best candidate you can find). Now...if it was a firearm....it would be a whole 'nother story.:D Good luck with your plow. ;)

On that scraper.....depending on soils and conditions you may, or may not want scrapers on those coulters. I think many folks took em off....not sure if they plug in stalks or mud or ???

Well the Disc is a Dearborn 10-80 , 26" first or old version plow
And the moldy is a Dearborn Economy 10-158 - 14" - general purpose bottoms moldboard .

Compared to the rest I've seen lately , these had scrapers, coulter chain, landslide wheels & scrapers, complete coulters and brackets, plow edges that are actually still in good condition other than that one welded on piece.

well I tested out both the plows, set them up according to an article on the N club. WOW they both ran great and surprisingly easy to pull. THe moldy ran very straight and true, but the disc did want to pull to the right. I have to replace a couple grease zerks but other than that it was good. We had a little over 4" of rain the night before and it rained all day. So it hindered traction. The moldy ripped thru 2" roots like nothing. The 8n seemed to have plenty of power, no bog or sputtering. Now all I have to do is lean how to plow the right way, without all the extra circling.
