After 2 years and 200 hours on my 723 loader I did something today that caught my attention. I was dumping a bucket of snow and smacked my lever to the right and lo and behold it dumped like in float.. Slow but steady. The bucket didn't slam upon detent empty just a nice gradual empty. I tried the normal push to the right and it curled fast emptied and slammed open. I did many more buckets and tried both options. Fast dump and controlled and it was still there. This happen to anyone else?? I always knew about the forward slam to engage float but this was a bonus...

That is the regenerative part of the dump. It applies equal pressure on both sides of the dump cylinders and because one side of the piston has a rod attached it has less surface area thus less push than the other side of the piston and you get a smooth controlled dump. KennyV.

Hey, John. Read the manual! :p It's one thing to buy a toaster oven and never open the manual, but a tractor and a loader - come on! :D

If I read the manual all the excitement would have been gone. Now it feels like I spent money and bought a new gadget that I can have fun using.. Didn't really remember reading that in the manual when I first bought the tractor.

I have found that it helps to re-read the manual about 6 months after I buy something. In the excitement of the new 'toy' I miss a lot of information and a few months of using it gets me familiar with the controls so the manual makes more sense.

hmm... I'll have to give this a try and see if I can figure out what you are talking about.... and, I thought I'd read the manual!

When you move the lever to the right to dump the bucket, the fluid is "regenerated" from one side of the piston to the other. This supplies all of the fluid from the hydraulic pump plus the fluid being emptied from the rod side of the cylinder to the extending side of the piston. This makes the dump quite quick. If you push the lever farther to the right you'll feel a detent much like the float detent. This position stops the regeneration and simply fills the cylinder with fluid from the pump. This is a slower dump but provides more dumping power if it is neeeded.

Texasjohn,

I hope you are as pleasantly suprised as I was when I slammed it to the right. I am sure there are a few more tractor users that didn't know this. Speak up!! We won't Razz you.

P.S. I'm not responsible if you break or bend your Joystick!!!:) :)

I'll be trying mine tomorrow, six inches of that white stuff in the forcast, thanks for the tip! :) ....and I did read my manual, well, sort of....

Well i have to say i am one of those tractor owners who was not aware of this function too. I guess it does pay to go back and read the owners manual.

Easy to see the difference in power on a BX.
Put bucket flat on ground and dump. It will only go so far and not lift the wheels off the ground.
Push lever further to the right and the power will lift the whole front end off the ground.

Well, I tried it on my L5030 and don't seem to find a " detent" to the right... or any difference in dump speed... I slammed it really hard to the right... harder than necessary to drop it into float mode.... am I missing something or is this feature missing from a 5030 FEL?

I must admit I didn't know about this feature. If it was in the operator's manual I must have skipped over it. I was picking up snow yesterday and tried it and it worked great. But some of the snow I was picking up was sticking in the bucket of the FEL and after every 10 or so bucket loads I would use the fast speed position to jar the stuck snow out of the bucket. But I like the detent position on the bucket valve.

Thanks for the mention of this feature johnk.

Learn something new everyday :p (happens a lot around TBN ) Can't wait to see if mine will do the same. Does it lock into place like the down float?

No, it does not lock in the slow position. You just hold the lever in the far right position while dumping.

I thought I was the only one that was blind to this but it is nice to see you seasoned tractor users fessed up. It was like getting a new tool for 0 money. Always nice to learn about the capabilities of your machine...Great site for learning things......I'm glad i enlightened some other tractor owners........Gotta get out and dig some snow now.....
