Guys I need some help here. 50k miles on my diesel with no problems until now.

Problem is the instrument panel and accelerator does not work. Lights, mirrows, signal, and everything works. Press the accelerator and nothing, fuel, oil, temp, gauges don't work. I was able to idle the truck to shade in order to check fuses. I cannot find a bad fuse. Thinking maybe a relay???

Anybody know what it could be???

It worked great early today. I was going to move a trailer load of mulch, backed up to the trailer, hooked it up and when I started the truck, no acceleration and no gauges working...???

I have about 12 hours to fix it or I'll have to get it towed in.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Miniuse # 41 10amp controls dash and throttle.
I did a little searching to find this and it was someone with your same year and motor.

I'll try replacing that one and see if it works. I did pull # 41 and could not visually tell anything was wrong with it. Wish I had some extra fuses.

I'll go get a couple early tomorrow.

THANKS!!

Do you have a "chip" installed?

If so take it out and see what happens. I have a buddy with a 99 F-250 that did werid things with a chip installed. When he connected a trailer and disengaged overdrive all kinds of crazy things happened. We spent hours in wiring manuals trying to figure it out. All problems solved when chip removed.

The overdrive button on end of gear selector is a known problem area for shorting out.

Also try going to " the dieselstop" web site lots of good folks there.

Gather this info before searching the "dieselstop".

does door dinger sound with door open and key in ignition?
turning ignition to on , not trying to start, do instr lights test?
turning ignition to on. not trying to start, does "wait to start" light come on?

The cam sensor is a problem area on the 7.3 but does not explain the dash lights. I have a feeling it has something to do with the trailer he hooked up. Wonder if the wiring did something funky to fry things?

I have experience with faulty CPSs and the issue is not the CPS. The new ford CPS released through the recall is great though.

If the truck is chipped, or has been chipped in the past, check the pins where the chip is or was plugged into the ecm, as they can become slighltly corroded, or loose and lose conection over time.

A normal sign of this is a 7.3 that shuts off, and opon attempting a restart, will not illuminate the glow plug lamp. I have never seen your exact problem, but if I was working on it in my shop, the ecm contacts would be the second place I would look, the first being fuse 41 which has already been mentioned.

Good luck

Thanks for the replys guys.

I had to have it towed in. Turns out there was a wire in the steering cloumn that had rub the insulation off and it shorted out the fuse. Fixed the wire, replace the fuse and WERE GOOD!!!!!

Thanks again,
David

Which fuse?

Very common issue. I have a 01 and if you turn the OD off then back on it will pop the fuse everytime. I really need to put a little tape around the wire. You need to pull the ignition and then the colum covers will come off. There is a great write-up over on TTT.Thedieselstop.com

Which fuse?

that would have been my first question. sounded like it was a fuse problem to start with. put fuse in, blows, put second fuse in, blows.... = problem with wireing

Which fuse?

They said it was #42 but I did some checking when I got the truck home and I believe you were right that it was #41.

I know you said you checked all the fuses and sometimes it's hard to tell if it's poped or not so I use a 12v test light to check fuses, it's faster and tells if you got pwr or not on both sides.

I had the same problem with my truck and I got news from a friend that worked for ford before the recall was issued and I ended up replacing the CPS and the problem was fixed. I haven't had any fuse problems as of yet.....Knock on wood!!! Love the truck though!
