2006 F250 powerstroke

I'm just trying to be realistic about the mileage. I guess it also depends on how heavy the truck is and what gear ratio it has. Most GM and Dodge drivers claim higher mileage versus the Ford.

So I went back to drive the diesel and the salesman said it had at least two bad injectors. They have it set up to go to the auction and didn't want to replace the injectors and do whatever else it needed unless I was really planning to buy it. I told the salesman I just wasn't comfortable buying it with it running the way it was and he agreed. So....I think I'm no longer in the market. Might be a really good deal for someone with the know-how to judge these things. I think I could get it for what they expect to make at the auction, but it's overkill for what I need, and I figure I'll be better off with an F150 with lower miles and a gas engine.

I want to express my appreciation to the group for all the constructive comments. Looks to me like you real diesel guys can find some bargains out there right now.

I run the 2005 7.3 F250 SuperDuty, SuperCab
You are lucky and have a one-of-a-kind truck that should be very valuable!

Phil

I'm with Phil, last I checked the 7.3l Powerstroke was replaced in 2003 with the 6.0l...
A good friend of mine has a 2003 F-350 and it has the 6.0l.

Technically there were some 2003 7.3 PSD trucks made. I came really close to buying one late last year that only had 19k miles on it. Well, maybe not all that close. The problem was that he wanted about 8k over extra clean retail for it. I think he finally sold it just this month. I don't know how much he had to come down on it, but I don't think I could take all of the "why, you're plum crazy" comments you'd get when asking almost double what something is worth.

As a final report....I ended up buying a wimpy little F150 with the underpowered V6. I'll probably dream about the diesel for a while, but this little truck still has 24K of warranty on it, so I won't be dropping multiples of the national debt on it for a while.

There sure are some pretty decent vehicles that go to the auctions. The potential costs scared me off, but I bet that 2006 with 118K could have been had for 8K as it sat, and it most likely needed less than 1K work at the most to get it straight. The salesman didn't tell me that price outright, but we were in the 9K range when I chickened out, and he did say they would take what they thought they'd get at the auction to save having to transport it there.

Good Afternoon Chuck,
Thanks for the final update !

You know as I said in an earlier post that at times, I wish that I had more truck... larger payload and diesel power. But in the end, you really need to ask yourself how much or how many times your going to take advantage of that extra utility ! If your like some of the guys on here that are towing large payloads fairly consistently than the bigger truck is warranted ! In my case, the biggest thing that I occassionaly tow is my Farmall Super A that probablly weighs is at 2500 lbs, so even with the trailer Im only towin 4000 lbs. Then there is the occassional trip to the box store for plywood and some dimensional lumber, and when ever I get a chance to get some free wood, then the truck gets used for that ! ;)

Unfortunately for me, todays trip with the wife, is to get some bagged manure and a bunch of flowers, that should pretty well take care of this afternoon !

Good luck with the new truck ! :)
