Yes, that is what I've been saying all along. A straight truck >26K or a combo >26K where the trailer is
>10K.

Read the link that JasG provided
That is NY requirements and has little to nothing to do with Wa requirements. Seems if we stay on the Wa state requirements it would serve our conversation better. I could throwout some Texas rules too......but would not matter to Wa

I definitely agree, its hard to change the minds of people that cant follow the flow chart, especially when it clearly states the manufacturers rating of your combination is 26,001 lbs or more, a class A CDL is required.

And the first attachment you posted indicates that is not true

Actually, on re-reading it for the 5th time, it proves his point.
It says (in the truck section) "Is the manufacturers weight rating of your COMBINATION 26,001 pounds or more?".
With that specified as the trailer being over 10k AND the truck OR the truck/trailer COMBINATION being over 26k, he is right.

There has never been a question that a trailer over 10K can bring you into CDL requirement land. It remains the point of contention wether a truck less than 26,001 pounds (non-CDL) in combination with a trailer U 10,001 requires a CDL. I maintain it does not.

The link he posted disagrees with you. It says that a trailer rated for over 10k AND EITHER a truck rated for over 26k OR a truck and trailer which have a combined rating of over 26k will put you into CDL territory.
Re-reading the earlier flowchart, it appears to say the same thing as it asks if the weight rating of the vehicle(s) is over 26k:

If the trailer is over 10K. If not, then it becomes a question of what the GVW of the power unit is

Sorry, misread your post. Per the info posted on this thread, with a trailer GVW of 10k (or less), a tow unit GVW of 26K or less and no odd stuff (buses, hazmat, etc) you can legally gross 36k between the truck and trailer without having a CDL. If your trailer is rated for OVER 10k, you can only gross 26k without a CDL.
