It's a 350 in a very well engineered, proven platform that freaking works. Your dad had to deal with some mess changing filters, you can too. Stop whining and drive the truck.

OK, I have a sort-of complaint. It's the oil filter on the V8 engine. It's not a simple spin-on filter but rather a contraption of a mess that uses a filter element insert and spills oil everywhere. It's complicated and what a mess.

I found the procedure rather labor intensive, having to remove the skid shield, but no more messy than any other vehicle. The oil filter canister is a bit of a pain, but again no worse than some others. To drain the canister, I used a wine bottle, inserted the drain fixture in the bottle, pushed the assembly up into the drain valve and let the oil drain into the bottle; no mess. I have a motorcycle jack, so used that to get the drain pan close to the oil sump and used a piece of cardboard as a splash shield; again no mess. I've since given up the job to my dealer as at 75 yrs old, I have difficulty getting down and up again, LOL

Cartridges are a superior design over spin on, your just not use to that with American trucks. All my German cars are cartridges too.

My F450 with the 6.0L PSD is a cartridge, and sits up on top of the engine. Easiest oil filter to access and replace of any vehicle I've ever owned.

Does the filter housing not have a drain plug which can be removed with a 3/8 square drive and then insert a supplied-with-filter plastic adapter to drain oil from housing? Lexus is that way and it's Toyota filter, relatively easy once you have the filter housing socket.

Once you push the plastic drain adapter in the oil starts to come out. That's when the oil starts to come out and gets all over. How do you push that plastic part in without the oil coming out?

You just push the anti drain back valve down and let the oil drain into the sump. The oil change on my LC has always been mess free.

I have an 07 tundra, If I could change anything it would be the oil filter. I hate it.
My oil filter housing was plastic. I replaced it with an aluminum housing for a toyota sienna.
I had to swap the inside parts, but other that that it was easy. A little better but, I still am not fond of it

See my post #112 above; very simple

I've been thinking about cutting a hole in the skid plate that needs to be removed to take the filter down. Then I can reach thru the hole to get the filter down. Lousy design.

My 99 Sonoma had an access door in its skid plate for the oil filter change. It was worth it. Jon
