Great! I have a TSC in our town. I'll check it out. Thanks!

I've never figured out how old my tractor is. Would the warranty transfer to a second owner? If so and if it is under 2 years old I'd be looking at $0.

The good news is that I checked with my farm insurance (thanks to the suggestion of my wife and a poster here; in that order :) and this is covered under a rider for farm equipment damage. I am thrilled with my agent at this point for including this coverage.

I'm still getting the slip clutch before doing any more PTO work. I'll let you all know how the claim and clutch work out.

Congrats.

I bet you break it again. I would seriously consider moving up.

Well thats not encouraging. But you suggested looking at insurance so I can't get mad at you. :)

I got this unit because the previous owner of the land had a Yanmar 184(?) that had a lower HP rating then this unit. He did this kind of work for years and I know he wouldn't have put up with these kind of repairs on an ongoing basis. I thought I WAS moving up compared to what HE had.

So what would you suggest one "move up" to?

Well - i guess one way to look at it is your insurance company would probably keep paying to fix it. :)

I had a JD 2210 and I was never impressed with the PTO performance. I never broke it, but it would spin a LX-4 mower very well. It was so bad, I would use the mid mount 62" deck more often than the LX-4. FEL was OK. Lack of position control on the 3 point was a pain also.

What all do you do with your tractor? Or plan on doing with it?

If insurance covers it, might make sense to just power on with the current setup.

I went up to a 4720 for tractor work and a Z-Track for lawn work.

I assume you meant "...by it WOULDN'T spin..."

The whole property is only ~10 acres.

Horse pasture: I cut the weeds once the horses won't put up with them and more often in areas viewable from the house Clear underbrush where the tree line is encroaching on open areas and clear select trees. Pull trailer of cut trees after years of neglect. FEL great for piling up cuttings and keeping them moving to decompose quicker.

Garden: box blade to tear/smooth for some planting. Box blade also for gravel road upkeep.

Might use a post hole digger in a few years to upgrade some fencing.

Lawn: Use 54" MMM for lawn (liberal use of word) around house.

And I bought this size thinking I could kill two birds with one stone. I'm rethinking this. A bit bigger in the pasture and a bit smaller in the yard would help but it was going to be out of our budget. I now see this plan as the way I'd like to move in the next few years.

Your right - would not spin it. Coastal grass can be thick, etc

You can probably get by but make sure your insurance will cover it again. If it breaks again I would get serious about ditching it.

3x20 would be great for your place.

Post hole digger is marginal on those sub cat 1 tractors. I forget the proper term.

I agree. But don't like the idea of pressing my luck with the insurance co. even a 2nd time.

As a matter of fact my dad bought a stand-alone gas-powered post hole digger so I may just borrow that when I take on that project. I can handle 1 or 2 here and there by hand.

So, is that you kissin' the bull?

I would ask about coverage. I don't know why they wouldn't cover it again.

Look at the smaller post hole diggers and see if you want to go that route - I wouldn't.

There are pictures of us building fence on our facebook page.

Funny - that is not a bull that is one of my favorite cows eating a "cube" out of my mouth. She is super friendly.

ddivinia: There must have been something wrong with your 2210! I had a 2210, and a LX4 mower. I could mow thru grass over the hood of my 2210 at full speed in low range. It would work it hard, but it never lost RPM, and it never skipped as long as the blades were sharp. I mowed my 7 acre piece of land in about 3-4 hrs like this. It was an established Hayfield and was also river-bottom, so it had tons of moisture and nutrients and grew super tall n thick. Seriously, my 2210 did it with no real problems, but I had to buy Diesel from the right place, or else it had no power. Some fuels were really weak in it! :ashamed:

Maybe so - I am glad it is gone.

Didn't mean to take so long to post but the appraiser my insurance co contracted with took forever to settle this thing.

Parts are now on order and they expect the tractor to be fixed by mid next week. (~7 business days after getting approval.)

I've purchased a slip clutch at TSC and will get it set up this weekend. I'm open to suggestions as to how to test the tension on the clutch.
