If you are like me it takes 4 shear bolts the first snow to find all the buried objects!!!

My favorite is the newspaper in the plastic bag...

I finally had a chance to check my 47 inch blower for noise on my 2305. I thought mine was too loud also. I found that the chain on the sprockets was way to tight. There was no deflection at all! After putting about 3/8 inch or less deflection in the chain it is a lot quieter now.

I ordered 12 shear bolts from JD using the bolt part number for my 47” blower on my 2210. I picked them up Friday afternoon, the bolts are grade 5 with the 3 lines going around the head. As for being loud my 47” blower run pretty quit for a snow blower.

I have a 4115 with the 47 snowblower, I think your tractor replaced mine, anyways, my pto shaft is also at an extreme angle to clear the pumpkin on the front axel. I had a issue with the two bearings that the pto slides thru, in the mounting brackets on the front of the tractor. Mine loosened, each bearing has 3 bolts (I call them a flange bearing, not sure what JD calls them), anyways if you loosen them, you will find that thel also adjust up/dow and right/left a little, mine had loosened, and allowed one of the universal joints to just hit (tick) on the from axel housing, which could be seen on the axel and the pto shaft. If you do loosen them, before you tighten them, insert your pto shaft thru both and tighten, or you could have an alignment issue thru the 2 bearings. You might want to have JD dissasemble thse bearing, they may have not gotten lubed at the factory and have gotten noisey. Just a thot, hope you find the problem!

For what it is worth I have been fighting this as well. My Blower is very loud as well. To make it worse everytime I have used it the last two years it will break shear pins everytime. At first I assumed it was ice or rocks. After some inspection I found the set screws would loosen on the fan allowing it to move forward until it hits the augers or the housing. It also vibrates like crazy. So far the dealer has replaced the auger gearbox and the shaft the fan is on. I wish we would get some snow this year so I can see what will happen since it is still very loud and vibrates

CHECK YOUR CHAIN GEARS ARE NOT OFFSET FROM EACH OTHER. ALSO EVERYONE KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR FAN HUB SET SCREWS THE SHAFT ON THE 47 BLOWER IS SO HARD THE SET SCREWS DON'T EVEN SCUFF THE SURFACE ON THE SHAFT. IF THEY COME LOOSE THE FAN WILL COME FORWARD HIT THE HOUSING CAUSING LOSS OF MONEY FROM BUYING NEW FAN AN HAVING IT INSTALLED. ONE FIX IS TO REMOVE SHEAR BOLT LOOSEN SET SCREWS PULL HUB FORWARD AN GRIND A RECESS WHERE THE SET SCREWS HIT SHAFT. THIS WAY IF THE SET SCREWS LOSE THEIR HOLD THE TIP OF THE SCREW WILL KEEP THE HUB FROM COMING FORWARD.

gator445, That is how my mess started. The setscrews came loose allowing the fan to hit the housing the first time I used it. Since that time they have replaced the shaft and gearbox, installed a longer key so the fan couldn't slide forward, and drilled a dimple in the shaft for the setscrews. When the screws still came loose they installed longer setscrews with jamnuts. We are finally getting some snow so I hope to try it out in the morning. At this point I am very dissastisfied with John Deere. If I wanted a snowblower that broke all the time and had to be redesigned every time it is used I could have saved a ton of money buying a cheap import and fixing the design flaws.

Watch for the setscrews to come loose on the back side of the blower housing under the big sprocket that the chain rides on , cause it will be next as was with mine. So far the problem you had, I also had . Plus the bearing under the driven sprocket failed as well as cracking the blower housing under bearing holder. The chain siezed and fell off. That **** shaft on the big sprocket won't seem to hold tight. My jd dealer mechanic can't seem to fix this thing. I have a 2210 with a 47". You make them guys tear it down and check that bearing on your blower shaft .

I don't know if it's just luck, but my 47" snowthrower hasn't shown any of the problems you guys are having. Used it for the third time tonight (this was the first time I had deep snow-10"-12").
Only 'problem' I've had is with the chute. Turns to the left fine, but I have to 'jog' it to make it turn right. Probably have slack in the cable.
Raises/lowers fine, runs quiet, throws snow 20' +.
I have broken one shear pin, when the rock garden jumped out from under the snow.

Starting last night I am experiencing the same noise and breaking shear pin problems discussed above. I was so mad I just put on the blade and gave up. Does anyone know how long the waranty is on the blowers? I think I'm almost at the 2 year mark. Do any of you have a service manual for the 47? It would be great if some one could take some picture and show where all the set screws and things are that we are talking about. Have the dealers been taking care of these issues?
