2305 with 47" 2 stage snowblower question

Well it's still not right. I was out tonight and if I have the blower up in the air a couple inches it's relatively quit. But as I lower it to float it rattles the whole machine. If I put down force on it it get's even worse. So bad in fact, my butt gets numb from the vibration. I took the blower off, hitch, shafts. Checked bearings, chain, all lubed up. Put it back on and nothing changed. I'm starting to thing I will have to take the gears off and check the bearing behind the sprocket. I'm going to call the dealer first and see if I can get them to take care of it. Then my 07 Honda Rincon that is fuel injected won't start. I'm not having a good week.

That isexactly the way mine is. I had it at the dealer 3 -4 times last year before the snow ended. So far this year we have not got enough snow to work it yet. If you find a resolution be sure and post it here. I have already checked all that I can think of checking phase angles, chain tension/alingment, pto shafts and impeller shaft. Everything appears to be in order and both the dealer and myself are stumped. If we get some snow and I can get it to break shear bolts I will be demanding a replacement this time.

I too thought my 2210/47" snowblower sounded noisier this year too- was breaking a lot of auger shear bolts (in fact, when I would check them after 5-10 minutes of use, they were loose)- finally loosened the two allen screws on the shaft, pulled it out and found alot of ice and dirt in there- cleaned it out and tightened it and the shear bolt down and so far have not broken any- still very noisy when down but that goes away when it's full of snow. I also adjusted the chain to 3/8" deflection- it was very loose.
It's working now and we are getting a ton of snow- I'll be out there tonight to see how she does.

My dealer is supposed to come out today to hear it. If this keeps up I will make a video and send it to JD corporate. There has to be something that they have seen to help us. If I can't get it resolved I will just use the front blade and look into other options as to what to do with the blower. I will keep you updated.

The dealer was just here. As soon as he heard it he said "Bearings" The ones behind the sprockets. He took the whole machine with him. A couple days and I'll update you on what happens.

I think I should check the bearings on mine. I’ve been using it since 2003 and haven’t replaced anything on it yet.
It does vibrate when it has no load on it.

successfully cleared the driveway last night w/out losing any shear bolts- thing was still noisy though. As I said before, it seems noisier this yr- I bet my bearings are shot too.

does anyone know the model number for this snowblower? I'd like to see how much those bearings are gonna cost online.
Thanks

It's a 47sb, but to find it on jdparts you'll want to do a wildcard search for
47* to find it.

I see it out there, I just am not sure what parts you need.

You guy's have me all nerves and jerking with this blower. My 47 blower is 1 yr. old, used it 5 hours last year, none this year. I thought it was pretty quit till I went out and ran it, It,s pretty noisy. All my set screws are tight and have lock -tite on them. The only thing I do see is JD calls for a 3/16” of deflection on the chain drive. That’s about what it is but it still seems very tight to me.

Don't order any parts just yet. I called my dealer and talked to the mechanic. He said "This thing is driving me crazy" He took it all apart. Auger, spockets, bearings, chain all down to nuts and bolts. Inspected every part and put it back together. Same vibration. He has a 2305 in stock with the same blower mounted on it and has them side by side checking shaft angles and things. Nothing is out of whack. He is going to put my blower on the 2305 and see what happens. He even called deere dealer support and they said there is a "sweet spot" that you have to find with the chain and sprocket alignment to make them run quiet. He says he can't find it. He is going to get a case number because he doesn't know what else to do. The mechanic told me that Deere will push them to prove it's a manufacturing problem before doing anything. How does a dealer prove that? If they can't get it right I will request a refund or some compensation and just abandon the blower. I don't have time to change sheer pins and rattle my teeth out eveytime I need it. I'll tell you what I learned though. The dealer is very important in getting good service. If they aren't on your side you are toast.

I took mine apart last night. I've been running it for 4 years on pavement and have never broke a shear bolt, but it is annoyingly noisy.
What I found is that the concentricity of the two sprockets is not true. If you adjust the chain at one point to 3/8" then turn the shaft 1/2 turn the chain binds to the point it will move the gearbox over. If you adjust the tension at the tight spot then turn the shaft the opposite side is loose to the point the chain wants to walk off the sprocket. So, either one of the shafts is bent or one of the sprockets is not welded correctly to the hub.
I plan to put a dial indicator on it next week.
The dealer replaced the mid shaft and the gearbox the first year I had it but it wasn't much better so I learned to turn up the radio.

That reminds me. The mechanic said JD told him the sprockets are not welded to a tight tolerance. So I guess you have to buy several shafts with sprockets until you get a good one.

I talked to the mechanic just a little while ago. He said he changed a bearing (I'll need to find out which one yet) Adjusted the sprockets so they were off set. He said deere told him if they are perfectly in line they will make noise. I don't understand this one at all. And finally he said my long mid pto shaft had a wobble. He noticed it when he would go into deep snow how it would wobble the whole blower back and forth. They are supposed to bring it back today or tomorrow. I will check it out and give you an update on if that solved the problem or not. I thought they were going to completly cover it under warranty but they are going to charge for a little labor and the $12 bearing. If it's not right I don't know what I'm going to do. Probably try to contact Deere corporate. I don't know what good it will do.

My tractor is home. The dealer dropped it off a couple hours ago. I turned on the blower and it's the same. I lowered it and it still make a lot of noise. From my 2 minute test I would say it is exactly the same. It's snowing now so in a couple hours or so I will be out to give it a good shake down(literaly). I'm thinking about making a video to post so you guys can hear this thing and compare it to yours.

I had my 47in blower unit for 2 years before I decided to lube the drive chain assembly. Discovered the non-concerntric gear/hub issue mentioned above (it was the smaller gear, the one connected to shaft leading to auger gearbox). It was welded off center; had about 1/2 inch swing every 180 degreees of rotation. Dealer agreed it was an obviously poorly manufactured part & provided no cost replacement; I sprung for new chain & bearing. Ran smoother, but not quieter after the swap.

Something worth checking is the assembly of that flanged bearing. Mine definately fit better when orrientated in one position; it bound up when assembled the first time.

Well I put in about an hour of snow blowing. The verdict is... Still loud, but my machince doesn't shake now. I'm guessing the shaft wobble had something to do with that. The blower is still loud and doesn't sound good when I go below level or put down force on it but what can I do. My dealer said they did everything they could and I should just run it. I'm concerned about the long term effects of the vibrations. I guess I'll just have to deal with the noise. I did take some video tonight. I had to put the camera on a tripod but you can clearly hear the difference in noise output. I will post it later tonight or tomorrow. I have my computer capturing the video right now.

That sounds pretty close to mine. When I got my 2305 I compared it to my 455 with the same model blower and the 2305 was quite a bit louder but I wrote it off to the difference in the drive shaft bearing support mounting system. The 455 has a bolt-on bearing carrier and the 2305 just drops into slots and uses a quick disconnect fastening system. The 2305 is much faster to put on but can vibrate like crazy, I thought about drilling some mounting holes or just putting on a c-clamp to quiet it down but now I am used to the sound so I just live with it.
My 455 was quieter at the down position then the 2305 but it would really shake rattle and roll if you raised it all the way up also due to the change of angle in the drive shaft.

Good to hear rlcowder... Thanks for taking the time with the video. I have two 47" units. I ran each of them on my 2305 last night and they both sounded noisier when I raised the front wheels like you. I was a little concerned initially when the thread started but not as much now. Here's what I did with mine and noticed some reduction in noise. Greased everything really well, make sure the drive chain isn't to tight (one on my blowers was WAY to tight), be sure u-joints are aligned as another mentioned early, and be sure your long drive shaft has the sliding end at your mid PTO. I reversed the drive shaft last night for kicks and it certainly made more noise.... I didn't put both units on my 2520 but I had the one on it and it was definitely quieter on the 2520. But the angle on it isn't nearly as severe either.
