That's a bummer. Here's a couple pics I pulled off Deere.com. Can you point out where the set screws and problems were?

I'm not sure how to help you with the set screw thing but I can suggest using a split clamp type collar to provent the impeller from "walking" o the shaft(providing there is room for it). I have not had this particular problem with mine as I only purchased it used recently. One thing I observed when looking the machine over before purchase was a LOT of noise and what appeared to be backlash in the gears. I was not going to purchase it until the seller corrected the problem. I did not want to end up replacing the Auger gears at a cost of roughly $500. The seller disassembled the gearbox etc. and found the gears to be in good condition, but there are square keys in the hub and shaft that were worn. Once these keys were replaced the noise was reduced to almost nothing. Another thing to check is if the universal joints in the drive shaft are in "phase" mine were not which was a significant contributer to the noise/wear also.

Not sure if this applies to your situation but it is something to look at.

Can you describe "in phase".

OK, I understand the principal but does that mean I just unhook the drive shaft and turn it 90 degrees? I have never changed anythig with my drive shafts other than put them on and off.

I've heard that "out of phase" mentioned here before, but can't discern any difference which way the shafts are aligned. :)

Well I just got off the phone with my dealer. My tractor was delivered exactly 2 years ago today. He said bring over the blower and he will take care of it under warranty. That's some good service.

Iused my blower for the first time this morning and it worked fine but I will check the set screws and most likely machine a groove in the shaft and run a longer set screw with a locking nut on it.

When I first put the blower on about a month ago the cables were messed up and I had to get a new one from the dealer. My cable wasn't in the track so if you have a problem with your shute check to see if the cables are set up right.
