I've been trying to find a suitable trailer for carrying debris with my compact tractor since my bucket fills up far too quickly. Usually, I keep piling the branches on until I can barely see to drive. Maneuverability is a plus. Then, the new Northern Tools catalog arrived and I saw a nice 3 pt mounted platform with 2' high rails and a 6 foot wide and 4 foot long platform. I seems to be able to dump using the hydraulic top link.

Carry-On Trailers 3-Pt. Hitch Hauler, Model# 803 | Category 1 Scoops| Northern Tool + Equipment

Anyone familiar with this? Any better ideas?

I'd look on Craigslist for a cheap, nonroadable trailer. I expect you'd get a lot more usable space for less money.
This is what I did and it works well for yard and debris cleanup.

"seems to be able to dump using the hydraulic top link. "

Look closer - the tractor it's shown with has a typical, MANUAL adjust toplink. If that were part of the dump mechanism, it'd take you half a day to dump.

Items such as this typically have a "trip" mechanism to dump, then a manual (you) means to tilt it back to normal which then latches the "trip".

The one crappy pic they show could use some more explanation, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

If you're into DIY and can weld, someone here posted pix of one they built a few months ago - might try searching maybe "3PH dump" (without the quotes, of course) - good luck... Steve

In fact, if you zoom in on that one pic, you'll notice an "extra" piece in the center of the top front cross-bar - dollars to donuts, the OTHER half of that is the "catch" that's likely located at the top of the triangular bracket, near where the toplink attaches.

Checked out the reviews on it and it is a catch mechanism. Probably fine for light loads.

Also got the shipping quote. $445. That's steep.

The trailer comments and Craigslist starting to look good. It would be great to find one that connects to the draw bar. Is that common?

I bought a trailer from the local harbor freight for 180 bucks with a 20 percent off coupon. I made it into a dump trailer with stuff laying around barn. Says it has a rated capacity of 1000 pounds but I load it up regularly with about 2500 pounds of heavy dirt. Little over 1 cubic yard

My trailer uses a standard 2" ball, so using the tractor's drawbar works fine. That said, I do use a 3PH drawbar that mounts on my quick hitch. This item has a 2" ball, a 1.75" ball and had a clevis hitch.
If you do want to use the tractor's drawbar, just buy a tow ball with a long enough threaded section to fit through the drawbar and can still tighten a nut (with a larger flat washer) on it.

For just under 300bux if you see it will work for you
jump on it. I have considered it as well. Sure, a trailer
will work but, you can not lower a trailer to the ground and roll
a heavy what not on it, you need not worry about backing up with it like a trailer, and
frankly it just looks like a very versital tool. I mean just back up to
a pile of rocks and roll them on, same for a pile of log rounds or use
it to haul splits up to the house and dump them. It can be a tool carrier,
a trash can taker-outter, a water hauling platform and speaking of platforms,
you can stand on it and paint the eves...and on and on.

Be sure to post up some pics if you get'er...

how about trying to use the fel to load it up with rocks? Alot of work to unhitch load and re-hitch. Just thinkig

For versatility/maneuverability it's hard to beat a 3PL "Carry All" type attachment, on our CUT's round the house garden we use a set of basic 3PL forks in combination with a few industrial warehouse plastic & alloy pallets, & caged pallecons (those c.200gal/1000lt industrial liquid tanks, remove the tank & they're great for firewood) which gives many advantages:-
- the pallets can be located, loaded/unloaded where required: enables multiple loads of fire wood, mulch, plants to be easily distributed
- the pallets can be loaded with the FEL & saves all the hassle of coupling/uncoupling linkages or trailers
- the alloy pallets are drilled out so we can fit quick release home made rails/gates secured by lynch pins for bulk material
- with a hyd top link the forks tip & the pallets are easily secured to the fork by a chain for tipping
- pallets are stackable on the fork & don't take up much space
- loaded with water drums/tank it's a good spray rig or FEL counterweight
- as Artisan points out it's easier to load a heavy object from the ground, & it's also a whole lot easier to un/load heavy stuff from a truck/trailer by raising the pallet
...........etc.

We've also built a large super duty multi-purpose 8'x8' carry all for use on fencing/road building projects with a Cat2 130hp tractor, unfortunately my camera's not working so there's no photo. This carry all is a flat top 1/4" alloy checker plate, with an adjustable land plane incorporated into the underframe, towbar & pintle hook mounted on the rear, tips with the hyd top link & 6x Cat12 individually adjustable rippers mounted on an I beam (the unit probably weighs 4200lb+?) - the link below provided the initial concept for the ripper mount
