this is a crosspost from the buying/pricing forum where i got no replies

Just looking for a few opinions on the value of a JD3720- Open station, 300cx loader with hd bucket. 3rd,4th,5th scvs. Air ride seat, mid pto 1020 hrs stored about 60% inside. Say condition is good, no known mechanical issues.
Seat has some cracks but that's about it for damage/issues.
Thoughts?
Thanks

I usually go with close to original purchase price for a reasonable hour, good condition machine. Particularly for pre emission 40ish HP tractors.
Not knowing the original price, I would guess your tractor is worth around $20k on the low end, to $25k on the higher end (private sale). My estimates are usually a little higher than what other TBN folks think though.

I'm curious if you have an idea of the machine's value?

my thoughts, based mostly on tractor house and other web stuff i found was similar to yours. Was thinking of trading it on a used 4066r and the dealer came back with 13.5 which seemed really low, given the hours and replacement costs these days.
After all if one of the advantages of the big 2 or 3 is residual value why am i not seeing it?
another route i could go is a used Yanmar YT359C for like 12k less with 200 hours less- the risk there is parts and dealer- i am confident that the quality of the Yanmar is at least as high

Wow, that $13.5k seems very unreasonable for trade in value. I didn't want to deal with selling my smaller Kubota L3410, and I got $12k in trade 10 years ago.

Have you thought of keeping the 3720 and just buying the 4066. By the sounds of what the dealer is offering you'd be close to the same overall price. Only you would have 2 tractors.

I’d ask what’s your goal for the trade? You have a really good pre emissions tractor what are you needing done that you aren’t able to get done now?

Dusty,
I, unfortunately seem to have become quite sensitive to diesel particulate and using the tractor has turned into a health issue. I just figured that as long as i was changing I might as well go up a size and get a cab. It's not really a shortcoming of the tractor as a function of its emissions.

PMS, I don't really have a property, or needs that i can justify 2 tractors on, unfortunately.

Got it. I’d say replace the cracked seat cushions, detail and shine it up and try a private party sale. I’d be happy getting 18,000 plus depending where you are. I’d ask for 20 plus

Depending on your circumstances, that $13500 would be a lot less sells tax due on the 4066 if you traded for it.

I now have 2 replies needing moderator approval, why?

I suspect it's the shortened form of the word "signature". I get the same thing when discussing grease dispensing devices.
