CDN, I did not forget you. Goofball me left an "h" out of your email, even after I checked it :confused3:
I copied the text from my first try but the pics are out of order. See if it came through.

Do'h! Yes, I did get it, thanks. I knew you hadn't forgotten, just technical issues :)

Took a quick peek on my phone, I'll have to go thru it better later on the computer, heading to the couch to put my feet up with my wife and watch a movie.

As to the possibility of the winch I linked in my previous post, I noticed that the 8000 lbs ones in the same series have free spool option and the case design looks to be the same as the 4900. Perhaps it can be added easily -- I'm hoping. I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if it's possible and find a price.

Hey, I'll take technical issues over a dumb spelling mistake!
One added note on the winch, I chose that Ramsey because of the 6.5" drum size they offered. With a narrow drum and close to 4' to the fairlead, it spools nicely. My other experiance with a normal 9-10" drum width is spooling issues, but this was on the front of Jeeps in a self recovery situation. Also I run the winch with the tractor at an idle, and I'm sure the tractor is not producing the rated GPM. In my conditions with lots of stumps and rocks, that speed satisfies me fine, but I really never have a pull more than 50'-60'.

Start a reply to this thread. The little icons above the block you are typing in. Fourth from the right "insert image". Click on that and then follow directions. I use "computer" as my source, then click on browse, then select the pic I want, then click on "upload". Image title will show up wherever you left your cursor blinking. If you still have trouble post the problem here and we'll help you thru it.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Your picture must be smaller than 1MB before you try to post it. If not TBN's system will just reject it and nothing will show up on your reply.

Very interested in your photos of the homemade winch... There is a 440 holmes winch cheap, wonder if that would work.

I was going to use a "PTO" winch like you show, but I was thinking about putting a transmission in the driveline so that I could have reverse. This started making the design to big to keep it all "tucked up" tight to the tractor. Winching without the ability to "unload" or reverse the line when you have the load up against an immovable object can get you in trouble. DSCN7572.JPG

Back the tractor up a few inches and the load will be off...

You don't need to winch the load tight against the tractor so backing it up is a good option...

Part one of the winch dilemma solved. I just got off the horn with Ramsey and they confirmed the 8 GPM requirement of the SCH 4900 (on their website it says 8 in one spot and 13 in a different). They also confirmed that freespool can be added with a couple parts from one of the 8000 series. Sounds super simple to do and they even gave me the part number (276052). Loosen one set screw and remove another then pull one piece out with a magnet. Screw in the new plunger, check for 7/16" clearance at one spot and tighten the first set screw back up. With this info, I have found me a winch and I can make allowances within the design of the frame much easier than with a PTO winch :cool2:

Tomorrow I'll try calling a local dealer to see how much out of my budget it is.
