Not sure what I'm going to do after I plug him with the 22 Hornet but he's killed three baby ducks after trying to run off with an adult duck. I'm done with it.
I'm faced with the same thing. I lost 7 of my 11 hens one day to what I presume was a fox teaching her babies to hunt.

Guess that I misunderstood what you meant when you said that you were going to "Smoke" them. ;)

Raccoons are notorious for slaughtering chickens too. Trail cam might help solve that mystery.

Raccoons generally are out at night. They've dined on my dime in the past, also. This year it was sometime between when I left at lunchtime and got home an hour and a half later... I'm quite certain this time it was a fox family.

If there's anybody here from Pennsylvania... Enjoy a Yuengling for me. 🍺
Moved from PA to New England in 1979 - many good brews originated from PA. Used to get a "box of rocks" which was a 24 case of 8 oz Rolling Rock in State College bars in the 70's.

A lot of legacy beers in PA are making a comeback, and yes, I enjoy Yuengling too!

Amongst other dogs and hunting types I've messed around with,I had a Beagle trained to follow a blood trail. Hunters, landowners and an occasional game warden hired me and "Snoopy" Beagle to recover deer. In offseason training I realized Snoopy would latch onto most any scent I showed a bunch of interest in. Which bring's use to your suspicion of "fox family"being the culprit. By prearrangement,4 neighbors called me when momma fox were suspected of raiding chickens (always during daytime). Out those 4 times Snoopy trailed 3 fox to proximity of their dens, once pratically sticking his nose in the den. Coyote were probmatic but more fun. When coyote were seen attacking or stalking birds and sheep, about half the time Snoopy followed scent and "started" coyote. Larger, faster and more agressive dogs being held on standby would take over to chase. We got shots at a few, confirmed hit one but without fail the coyote was never seen again. A neighbor later hooked me on watching his walkers start coyotes, run them while he attempted intercepting chase and releasing sight hounds which quickly overtook and killed the coyote. I enjoyed the high speed truck chases almost as much as the dogs.

I've been been raising poultry sporadically for most of my life and more often for the last 10 years. There hasn't been a day in the last decade when there weren't a few laying hens around, and meat birds every summer. For the last 6 or 8 years I've raised a few turkeys to give to family members. I prefer to let them roam in the daytime, so have fed more than a few predators over the years, it comes with the territory. On a couple of occasions I've had Momma Fox or Raccoon in my sights and deigned not to pull the trigger even though I knew that I'd regret it; (and I was right), Yet I prefer not to kill unless I have a reason. I do wish that fur would come back. I find it rather ironic at best and hypocritical at worst that people prefer synthetic clothes with all of the environmental damage that entails; rather than somethin which is naturally occurring and lives and dies just as we do.

I'd try smoked fox. It's probably gross but you never know

No suspicion on my end. We saw it. Wife shot at it with her pistol but missed.

Still trying to convince the wife that this would go good on the grill...
not sure there'd be enough to go around. :ROFLMAO:

You are both right, venison is very tasty grilled, in fact that is what I am going to be grilling tomorrow. Marinate it in some soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, salt, and garlic and then cook it on a charcoal grill...mmmmmm. Your wife is also right, that isn't going to be nearly enough. I filled all three of my rifle tags last November and unfortunately there are only a few more packages of venison left in the freezer.

Regarding chickens, we have chickens and the raccoons love them, possums too but less so than the raccoons. I ended up building an entire building for the chickens and shut them up in it at night, have had no raccoon or possum problems since as they can't get in the building. The worst problems we have with raccoons and possums are that they like to eat our sweet corn and watermelons at least as much as we do and I have to drag the trap and some marshmallows out during that time of the year.
