Thank you, one of my challenges is how do I block the wind but not the view? I think it's not possible without a big glass bubble. :laughing:

I think the size of your build is about what I'm looking to build first. Later on I'll need/want a barn in the 50X100 size.

Not going to get air line any cheaper than that.

I'm all in for doing what you want with your place, and can appreciate your reasoning. I'm even cheaper and I ran rubber air hose inside and outside of my shop. Flexible so they are easy to run and they come with threaded ends already in place.

I grew up in west central IN (possibly the most flat place on Earth) and the wind is ALWAYS blowing there! When I was a kid my parents planted a hundred evergreen trees in three rows on the North and West side of the property. That was probably 30 years ago and they have all matured now. Even when the wind is blowing really hard you can sit out in the back yard with little notice of any wind at all, but you can't see anything! I guess its either a view, or wind. Just have to decide which one you want the most.

I've started parking all my "junk" in the shop and can tell its going to fill up quickly. Two trucks, two side by sides, and my tractor already take up a ton of room. I still have to get the Jeep moved in along with a couple of work tables, misc wheel/tires , couple of extra transfer cases, air jacks, and the mower. I would like to have a garden shed behind to throw a few things in but that may have to wait a little while.

Hi guys....looks great. I mean really really great ! With a shop/garage planned for future, how do you decide comparing stick framing over metal building? Is it the current price of materials or maybe the contractors preference? I have a 30'x36' building in mind.

This is a very complex question. Before you choose build type you need to settle on details.

I don't consider size in this decision.

How are you going to heat it?

Doors and windows?

Interior environmental comfort?

What work do you plan to do in the building?

Are you hiring it built or DIY?

Others can add their considerations.

After you have made these determinations building type might be more apparant.

What type you build all depends on how much you want to spend. Pole barns are cheap to build. For the size it's easy...double want you think you need then it will almost be big enough.:laughing:

I agree with doing what you want at your place. However, one of the reasons I'm on this forum is because everyone shares their knowledge and experience, then each of us can use it or not. I have the same opinion as Eddie when it comes to PVC airlines. I've seen the aftermath of their failure, but also know that commercial shops use it. The second one is the rubber hoses - when they fail, the end whips around and will really beat you up! My wife's grandpa spent 3 weeks in the hospital after one broke - granted it was bigger than what we normally use since it was at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, but even smaller ones can beat you up. Just be careful, medical bills are more expensive than prevention.
