4520 disk size ?

What size blades and spacing is this unit? Is your tractor a hydro or gear drive?

Has crossed my mind to consider adding a 4000 series unit in the future due to greater maneuverability. Thinking the hydro would be handy, but curious how it would do if needing to pull some ground engaging equipment.

i had the hydro 4520 with the ag tires and i didnt have any luck pulling my two bottom plow . dont get me wrong it would pull it but it was always giving trouble with the load match feature . i finally traded it on this gear drive 4520 and the difference in pulling power is very noticible . i wouldnt trade back for nothing . whenever it comes to ground engagment gear drive cannot be beat. my disk has 20inch blades with 9inch spacing i believe .

Good choice on the disc harrow.

I have heard several times that the gear is a more efficient drive train. My thoughts were to have one and be able to utilize a grapple for clean up work and also have the grapple set up for the 5303 too. Have been operating a skid steer with grapple all afternoon reclaiming old log roads. It is very handy being able to ease into something and keep pressure on it while lifting and curling. Do you miss the hydro for that type loader work? The truth of it is I don't think any tractor will match or best the skid steer for that type work. The visibility is unbeatable. I have the ground engaging work covered with the 5303. Might be best just stick with it and consider adding a skid steer in future instead.

I do kinda miss the hydro for the really close up tedious bucket work. But after some time on the power reverser transmission I have now I think it will be about the same. I can't stress enough how much better this tractor pulls compared to the hydro model I traded in.

Both units were set up the same except for transmission? Same tires and ballast?

I have a MX5100 HST, 4WD, and have very different feelings about the HST compared to the gear drive. I have found for my uses that the HST is wonderful. It does use more fuel for power as it is necessary to operate at higher RPM's. However, for brush mowing on hills with trees it is unsurpassable for speed and ease of use. I have R4's on it as I cross ground (grass runway) to get where I am going and the ag tires cleat too badly. I have found this setup to provide adequate traction for my needs. I plan to purchase a lift disc harrow in the near future and have been shopping several brands including, Land Pride, Tufline, EA, and a few others. I would go with EA, but they don't know the weight of the harrows yet as they apparently weigh the unit when they make one for sale and the set that I am interested in they don't have a weight for it yet. Land Pride and Tufline are old, heavy, reliable brands, but they are very expensive. Most of my use is brush cutting, and loader related and the HST is far superior for that than geared models. My old Kubota was a shuttle shift and I loved it until I tried the HST models. I am shopping for harrows that exceed the width of my rear tire spread. A set in the 6-7' range.

Yes both machines where the exact same other than the transmission. And I never said the hydro was useless. I said for GROUND engagement type work the gear tractor can't be beat. And if you can swing it I would definitely be looking at the tuff line it's a top notch piece of equipment.

I will most likely wait until the Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, they usually have a lot of brands represented there and often you can find relative bargains on equipment they don't want to haul back somewhere. Also, it helps to look and note the brand differences. We attend most years to see the latest greatest innovations and it is a lot of fun.
