7,000# vs 10,000# trailer

Everyone here gives good advice or at the very least, gives you all the options. I love my 18' dove tail ( 16 ft flat- 2 ' dovetail). I also thought it was too long, but glad I did it. Hopefully your new trailer will have all LED lighting. To me, this is a requirement. LED is great.

Very unfortunately, it does not. I upgraded my last trailer after popping the lighting fuse. I absolutely love the LED's and have every intention of swapping this trailer over at some point. Not making a big deal out of it now, though. I'll suffer through it for a couple of years. Or until I have to replace a light bulb or another lighting fuse. Whichever comes first.

Keep watching ebay; I got all my LED lighting from there. If you are patient, you can find a good deal.

I really think you should rethink your 16' choice. What if ya want to take along a couple of attachments? The extra 4' of 20' trailer ain't gonna cost much or make much difference towing but will sure make a big difference when ya need it. I would even swap the 5000lb axles for the extra 4 feet. It's alot easier to change axles (if ya really think ya need them) latter than add the 4 feet. My other two cents is about the dove tail. To me it really is just wasted space and drags on everything, but alot of folks like them, so it is really whatever ya like. And by the way I have a 7000lb 16' trailer and BX23. It is a pain to set the bucket on the box blade. Weight is never the issue.

Just checked with my dealership where I'd buy the trailer. The weight dstributing hitch deal is $425 installed, shank and everything included. That is with 1,200# arms.

Now I just need my wife to choke down $3,425 + tax for a big freaking trailer that I wouldn't need but for hauling my $20,000 rig to other people's houses to do work I don't get paid for.

Maybe I'll pour a glass of wine first.

I don't understand... In some of your earlier posts you said your wife was all gung-ho for the larger, more expensive $3,000+ trailer. Why are you concerned now?

It's one thing to talk...it's completely another to stroke the check. This is very typical of our relationship. She is extremely supportive of the purchase, but the day before I pull the trigger she starts with, "Do you REEEEEALY think you need that trailer? What are you REEEEEALY going to do with it?".

She did it with the tractor, the backhoe, and now this.

God Bless my wife. I promise. It is because of her diligence and sensitivity with our money that we are able to do a great many things I hadn't even dreamed of. But for some reason, anything over $1,500 really puts her in a tailspin.

One of the nice things about this "pause" in the purchase is I can constantly re-evaluate my purchase. I may snap out some lines in the driveway and see what I can fit in a 8' x 16' (or 14' with the dovetail) box. If it don't fit, I'll reconsider.

The nice thing about the wife holding me up like this is that she is more receptive to price increases if I think it is necessary. If we HAVE the money, she'll let me spend a bunch of it. I just need to wait until we HAVE the money...

Don't forget to add 3-4' for the tongue. Check the width too if you plan on working on it in a garage... I found out the hard way trying to get mine thru 8' wide garage doors....now why would anybody put 8' wide garage doors in???
